I am traveling to Evart, Michigan for a bachelor party. What is a must hit brewery on the way up. I only have time for one, maybe two breweries. Please help me Michigan peeps!
It's a small place that not many people know about, but I'll let you in on a little secret. There is a place called Founders in Grand Rapids, and it's not too far off 196. Please, though, just keep it between us.
I've been to half the breweries in Grand Rapids. I am looking for something different haha. Honestly, I'd prefer Vivant over Founders.
Well you then might want to list which breweries you have been to so folks know which to avoid suggesting
Damn, you found my secret spot?! If you've been to half the breweries in GR, then I'm not sure what else there will be on your way to Evart (which I had to look up on the map). I'm sure there is something around, but when you say "must hit", I'm not sure there is much I'd classify as must hit outside of the ones you've probably already been to. I'd suggest just looking up the breweries on MI's beer map and finding something to visit just for the hell of it.
Thats what I think I will do. My friend who is really into sours and stuff is riding along with me so Vivant may be a must visit for him. Also, those duck nachos are incredible. The livery in benton harbor may be another option. I have never been before.
Did you see Josh Noel's article earlier this summer (which he recently re-tweeted) about breweries in SW Michigan? Check that out - should be easy to find with a search - and maybe use that as a guide for something you haven't been to. I've heard great things about Arclight in Watervliet - try that one if you haven't been. I plan on checking out the new brewery (Watermark) in Stevensville this weekend since it's all of a 5 minute drive from my friend's house. The brewery is not far off 94 at all in case you want to just check it out - it just opened in the last month or so.
Green Bush in Sawyer is an easy no brainer. Just of 94. that could be a quick stop too. Assuming you are taking 196 towards GR u could stop at at OddSide in Grand Haven, Saugatuck in well Saugatuck, New Holland in Holland and this is all before you hit Grand Rapids.
OddSide isn't technically on the way to GR/Evart - it'd be a detour of about 35-40 minutes or so. That still may be doable for OP, but just thought I'd point it out.
Went today. Totally worth a trip. The Imperial cream stout on nitro is recommended...can't wait to crack my Juice Is Loose growler! Plus just a couple minutes away from I-94.
