Because of my wife's requirement the refrigerator be primarily used for the family's food (I know...) and my inability to go to the store and not buy beer, I sometimes get refrigerated beer with no cold place to put it. It ends up warming in my cellar and going in the fridge a bottle at a time. This could happen with any style. (Saw cold Old Rasputin a couple weeks ago I would have had to cellar.) Does anyone else have this problem? Am I significantly damaging the beer? Is it dependent on style? I need solutions other than buying another fridge or not buying so much beer.

You are not damaging the beer. Some styles can be kept in the cellar just fine for months. Others should only be there for a couple of months at most.

Here's a useful article about beer storage written by a guy who was a professional beer writer (among other things).

Basically its a non problem so long as you remember to drink your beer fresh and keep track of what you have in stock and don't build up too much in the basement to be consumed in a reasonable amount of time.

Maybe you can negotiate space for more than one bottle by telling your wife you'll not use any other space except what may be needed for 2-3 bottles.

Should be fine as long as your cellar is a reasonable temperature. I keep most of my beer in an air conditioned closet and transfer to the fridge a few at a time.

Drink faster, or find a friends frig, lol Or do not by cold beer... are only "solutions" I see you can do, that are practical. Of course if your REALLY asking if cold beer is hurt by warming up again, then no, this has been explained many times. Extreme temp changes can cause the seal to break, then you got problems.

Thanks. I have obviously missed the previous explanations, although I'm sure a quick search would have found them had I bothered to take the time. I store the beer in a dark closet in my basement, so it sounds like I'm good.

    Hey look:

And I do get an entire shelf in the door, but it only holds about 8 bottles. Good enough, I suppose
