A Quick update / bit of info on my experiences bringing beers through customs this week. I had 10 bottles of beer, so was more than a liter over and declared it all. Was waived through without a second question.

Will see how far I can push it next time but I would feel pretty confident that a dozen 350ml bottles wouldn't be any trouble at all. The customs people had zero interest I'm looking or making me pay a bit of duty

My bag was right on the weight limit though, so even with 2 bags I think it would be a struggle to get much past 24 350ml bottles

Was this bringing beer into the USA? Or into AU?
I was coming into AU with 27 bottles of mixed sizes (14.5L - some 750ml; some 330ml) and had them spread over two bags with clothes and other assorted travel stuff. My total weight was ~40kg: one bag at 22.9kg and the other at ~19kg. And I got waved through without question, too.

USA into AU. You had a ton of beer! I guess they aren't that worried about extra. I have gone from AU into USA about half a dozen times with a case of wine and been waived through so the USA is about the same - if anything they have much lower duty on excess alcohol so they care even less
