So I've been having these ChocoFrut Stouts from 5 Rabbit brewing out of Chicago and both their Guava and Pineapple are simply fantastic, currently among my favorite chocolate stouts. So I'm pretty sure this is a stupid question, but does anybody know of some other real fruity chocolate stouts? Some that actually have a good balance between their chocolate and fruit flavors?? :grinning:

Goose Island Bramble Rye was great a few years ago. Last good fruit stout I had was Mispillion Happier Ending, it was a cherry chocolate stout. Feel like more breweries should be giving stuff like that a try.

Never had much of an excuse to try any of Kasteel's stuff, but now I DO! :grinning:

I really wish I had gotten a chance to try Founders Big Lushious. I'd also love to try a sour cherry stout.

I'll throw a vote down for Southern Tier Choklat Oranj, that one really surprised me last year and I actually just picked another bottle up today. Very nice mix of orange that leans on the bitter side in my opinion and actually elevates the stout rather than covering it up.

I'm drinking a 4hands Downfall right now. Not a chocolate stout, but a BA stout with good sweetness and raspberries. Loving it.

a few months ago I had a dogfish head "higher math". not a stout, but a very strong golden ale brewed with chocolate and sour cherry juice. it was a little pricey and not really my cup'o'tea but i can see where some would really like it. my personal preferance leans towards coffee stouts and away from overly sweet beers so i would be the wrong person to rate this beer. it also had a very high abv 17%.[IMG]

I would have suggested Trois Dames Foret Noire, self-described as a Swiss Kirsch Imperial Stout, except for four things:
    1. It isn't a stout.
    2. It isn't imperial.
    3. It isn't very good.
    4. It is no longer brewed.
You might try dropping a shot of Cherry Heering or Kirschwasser into a large snifter and topping it off with a can of Ten FIDY. What could possibly go wrong? :sunglasses:

Not really into very fruity stouts but I do like Kasteel Donker. It is a nicely balanced beer and I usually pick one up when I'm at the store. Very drinkable.

Just one man's opinion...but this beer was a HUGE letdown for me. Cloying with a gross pickle juice finish.

I had high hopes that were quickly dashed.

Big Lushious was awesome, I hope they re-release it sometime. One of the few ales I was happy to purchase in bombers.

    I'll second Bell's Cherry Stout.

Also, now that you're in the distro footprint, Short's Black Cherry Porter is coming in October.

It came out almost a year ago, but if you happen to still see Boulevard's Imperial Stout X: Tart Cherry... it's definitely worth picking up

I'll second the Dogfish Higher Math - I think it's fantastic.

Deschutes' anniversary ales from the last two years (imperial porters, not stouts, if you're splitting hairs) included fruit. Black Butte 26 and Black Butte 27. I actually did not like them for that reason, but I think that's personal preference and not the beer's fault. Note this year's Black Butte 28 does not have fruit, but I still see the past couple years sitting on shelves in bottle shops in CA.

Boulevard does a Chocolate Ale with Raspberry that's pretty tasty.

I had a much different experience, so much so I sought it out a while ago and have another bottle. It's getting up there in age so I wonder what it's like now, if I'll have the same experience you did.

Blue Owl's Professor Black is fantastic.

Back on the OP's topic, DuClaw does a raspberry stout called Naked Fish, and an Imperial called Double Naked Fish. Although, I have to say, I don't hold them in very high regard.

Sierra Nevada Trip in the Woods - Barrel Aged Chocolate Cherry Stout is really good. It's probably hard to find these days but it reminded me of those Cella's chocolate covered cherries.
