Hello there you South-Atlantic heathens... one of your Mid-Atlantic brothers could use a hand in planning a mini-trip to Ft Lauderdale. My wife decided to just book us a flight and a place to stay - minimal amount of time, pretty much a Wednesday - Saturday affair. Can anyone help me with a few suggestions for breweries to visit, best bottle shops and possible food destinations within that area? I already know it's not where the most popular Florida breweries are at, but I could use some warmth and sunshine and my wife could use be close to a beach. I would thank you times a million and honestly appreciate it.
As far as breweries, Funky Buddha in Oakland Park (about 20 north of FLL) is a must. I'd recommend LauderAle as well. They're located close to FLL and they have a coconut porter that, IMO, rivals Last Snow. Also Flagler Village at the Brass Tap, while not an actual brewery, makes some pretty good beers with a pretty solid tap list and food options. As far as bottle shops...Total Wine, ABC, Crown, Riverside Market...those are the only ones I know of. FB should have bottles to go in their taproom tho.
I'm just guessing you will be on Ft Lauderdale Beach or close by. Best brewery nearby as others have stated is Funky Buddha. LauderAle is decent. Brass Tap is worth a visit for Flagler Village beers and food. Other solid food/craft beer spots are Tap 42 and Riverside Market. Bottle shops: Total Wine or ABC Ft Lauderdale. Go shopping on Wednesday or Thursday for best selection. On the beach (or 1 block off the beach) best craft selection is at the Parrot Lounge. A good restaurant for dinner near the beach is Coconuts and they have a few craft beers. Enjoy your trip!
Going to be in the area this week west of I95. What is your guys thoughts on Saltwater and Khoffner Brewery? Lauder Ale and Funky Bu is on the list already. Just trying to map out the two days. I think we also have a groupon at brass tap already.
Koffner is between Funky Buddha and LauderAle. Saltwater is in a completely different far away neighborhood. If you're going to plan that one, also consider Due South and Barrel of Monks. Banging Banjos and 26 Degrees are also north on Ft. Lauderdale, but not as far.
If you are also down for a drive Civil Society is about a hour North from Ft Lauderdale and are making very good IPAs.. They also might have cans avail for purchase
Barrell of Monks was also on the list. Thank you. Which breweries are strictly tap room only sales and others you could find at bars. I can't get cans/bottles I am going on a cruise ship later and can't take those along.
Do tell! As I'll be there Saturday/Sunday from Ohio, then cruising out late Sunday. We always bring our allotted wine on the boat, but I've never tried to get beer on. We're driving down from Orlando saturday and hitting our favorite breweries between saturday and early sunday, (Side Door, Civil Society, Due South, Devour, 26 Degree, Funky Buddha) then planned on shipping stuff back home before the cruise. We'll have ~8hrs to kill on Saturday 4/15 too after the cruise and will probably hit places again on that day that we could bring home too.
The most fun you could possibly have in Ft. Laud is chartering a boat ride through the intercoastal and drinking a corona with a lime. It's stunningly beautiful.
Sat 4/15 is Wide Awake (imperial maple bacon coffee porter) release day at Funky Buddha. Good timing..
JUST saw that and yeah they may workout perfect. We generally get off the boat around 8 and have our car by 9ish, so their 9:30 special opening might just be amazing haha.
I may have just been lucky.. But I just put the beer in my suitcase I check and wrap them in some clothes.. Put some cans in my sneakers.. I've taken a few Crowlers and 12oz cans one time and another time a whole 12 pack of bottles. Don't know if by tipping the baggage guy helps but usually do that.. We did have friends of ours who had a note in their luggage saying they can get their booze back at the end of the trip.. Lol! The Norwegian Escape has a craft beer bar on the ship with a pretty decent selection and the Carnival Vista has a brewery on board..
Oh and Flagler Village is doing a bottle release on the 15th at 2pm.. Hawaiian Dreamz.. Bourbon Barrel Aged imperial stout with coconut, coffee and cocoa..
