I ordered a Young's Double Chocolate Stout and got a Wormtown Sweet Tat's Breakfast Stout. I knew something was amiss, but didn't complain. Although this was my second beer on what was supposed to be a light Sunday lunch.

That's pretty bad since the word exists outside of beer. My buddy gives me shit for calling it "SUCK ah buh" (kinda like succubus) instead of "Sue KAH buh". If it's just "Abacus" backwards, who gives a shit what you call it? As long as I still get to drink it, I'd rather call it by the wrong name than be THAT guy who corrects people on how to say a made-up word.

Back when I first turned 21, I was at a bar and ordered a Hoegaarden. I thought I was super cool and pronounced it the way they do on the bottles (who garden). The waitress came back with a brown ale and I was confused, so when I asked her what she brought me, she said it was a "new garden"... it was a f*cking new castle. I was too nice to correct her, and instead decided to never pronounce it that way ever again.

I used to pronounce think Paulaner was "Pawl-uh-ner." I never got a chance to make a fool out of myself, but eventually I picked up the way a friend said it: "Pow-lah-ner." Much closer than mine.

Reading about the Bruery anniversary beers reminds me of a funny story. A few years ago a co-worker and myself were in central PA on a several day assignment. We had a partnership with a company based in Quebec on this particular project, and one of their engineers was driving down to meet up with us. He planned on meeting us for dinner when he got in, so my co-worker and myself picked a nearby place and called the guy so we could give him an address. The town we were in, Du Bois, was pronounced "Doo Boyz" by the locals. So my co-worker is talking to this engineer on the phone, trying to give him the name of the place so he can enter it into his GPS. "Doo Boyz" wasn't making any sense to this guy, even after searching several times in his GPS. Finally, after a couple minutes, my co-worker tried "Doo Bwah" and I could hear the engineer's joyous exclamations though the phone from where I was standing as he finally understood. We had a pretty good laugh over that one.

I once meant to order a Hill Farmstead Life without Principle #2 at the Armsby Abbey, but actually
asked for Life without Pineapple. The bartender had a great chuckle on that one.

I asked for a Raging Bitch and the waitress was either offended or confused, not sure which. I had to point to it on the menu.

I was talking to David Walker about a year ago at a FW event and asked him how its pronounced. I think he is a little bitter that he got sued and had to change it from Abacus. He said, "Well we at the brewery pronounce it how it's fucking suppose to, Abacus."
