Hit up Lost Nation for lunch if you can. I can't stop singing their praises. Food is out of this world and it doesn't hurt that their delicious Gose can be bought by the case (16oz cans) now! If you're the outdoorsy type like me, a hike up Camel's Hump via the Burrows Trail is the best vista in VT. Nothing but wilderness. Mansfield is nice, but too many tourists and TV/radio towers. Happy beer run! Cheers!

True, but 13 miles isn't going to change much one way or the other. I agree that Montpelier/Waterbury has better/more options, but he will have already been at the HM Coop that morning, so a bit of a double dip.

Yes, definitely worth a lunch break. If they still have "the wind" its unbelievably good, Gose dry-hopped and grapefruit.

Any stores on the way to Hill to stop out to score any sip bottles or anything?

Your best chance for Lawson's today will be Warren Store at 10am.

Absolutely. Try to grab some Foley Brothers (Citrennial is usually available but Fair Maiden or Pieces of Eight if possible). Fiddlehead if you can find it. There is a lot of great beer in Vermont outside of the big three. If heading back south you will find HF on tap at Worthy Burger or at Armsby Abby in Worchester, MA.

Don't get mad at me now guys lol buttttt since I got out of Hunger Mtn at 8:15 this morning I decided to shoot over to Winooski Beverage (40 mins) to grab a couple more heady four packs for friends (I'm a good friend I know). In line now, hoping for a case or a couple packs. Got here about 9:00 AM and am roughly 25th in line. Was 52nd in line at Hunger Mtn. Haha but don't worry guys still heading up to Hill Farmstead right after this to grab 5 growlers and some samples then lunch! Still open to lunch ideas either close to Hill or on the way back down south to Treehouse!

    What a day!!

    (My poor dimishing bank account)

Lol. I don't think you will find any fiddeHEAD. Mastermind was released last saturday but no cans went to retail. The brewery isn't far at all tho, and there is a good pizza place in the same building called folinos. Not sure when they open (maybe 11am?) but that could be a good lunch spot before hill.

So grabbed half a case of heady at Winooski Beverage. Was out by 10:15 AM. Drove around the town of Burlington a bit, beautiful. Now enroute to Hill Farmstead be there for around 12:15. Starving will definitely need lunch after!

nice thread with lots of good info so rather than start another I'm hoping I can get some feedback here - will be in southern VT Thursday Sunday Aug 6-9 and have familial permission to go beerhunting Friday the 7th - my plan is as follows - feedback welcome

    1. Drive north and hit up the Warren Store right as they open at 8am. What are the chances of there still being Lawsons or other good stuff left over from a Thursday delivery? Worst case if I strike out I can grab a brekkie sambo there
    2. Drive from Warren to Stowe getting to Stowe around 9.30am. Is 9.30 too early for some of the Heady deliveries to start dropping at Stowe?
    3. Leave Stowe 10ish - get to HF 11ish - seems like they have been opening earlier these days and I'm hoping an 11am arrival will minimize waiting around time although the new system does seem much better than standing in line
    4. Leave HF and head back to Stowe, stopping at Lost Nation for lunch and, uhhhh, beer
    5. Stowe to Waterbury - mosey around Waterbury - what are the chances of finding Heady/Second Fiddle/Sip around Waterbury on a Friday afternoon?
    6. Head back down south possibly stopping at Foley Brothers.

    Any feedback is greatly appreciated!!

I would stick to hunting Heady. Hill will be there and unless you're absolutely set on a beer that has been on for a couple weeks, I think that going in the afternoon would be fine for Hill. Heady is mostly available in more populated areas and it tends to disappear quicker. If you're going to try to get Heady then go to Hill then try to get more Heady, you might as well just stick to hunting Heady first.

that's why I don't care when beer travellers ask for info on visiting Vermont to spend their hard earned time and money.

Von Trapp Lodge and sit on the deck, drink some very good German beer and eat some good German food.

interesting. do they only serve in house beers, or do they have guest imports? the reviews aren't great, but you can usually add in like a 1 to 2 point auto-BA-rating penalty for german beer, sadly.

    1. Very low odds. If you come up Rt 100, JD's Beer Cave in Hancock (a Sunoco Station) has some nice beers and a growler filling station. Stuff like Zero Gravity Conehead is usually available.
    5. Waterbury CBC might have some HT on a Friday afternoon.
    6. Foley Brothers is fun to visit, and the beer is cheaper at the brewery than in various shops.

One of my favorite things to do in VT. Hard to beat on a beautiful sunny day. The view is amazing.

Definitely a great place to sit and have a true to style German beer! Is the new brewery location open yet? Or is it still the small bar in the back of the bakery. I was there in late April and loved the deck on one of the first sunny days!

The brewery is open (massive by VT standards), but closed to the public. The bakery place is still the only place that I saw.
