Saw this e-mail and thought I would spread the word as it seems like a great event (beer wise and the cause behind especially). Unfortunately I will not be able to attend as I am already committed to something else. And no I am not affiliated with any of the groups involved in the event - - - - - - - - - - This Saturday the 27th we are hosting a fundraiser for my good friend Brit Antrim. Brit is a San Diego native and the former head brewer at Anderson Valley in Boonville and also worked at Kona and Great Divide. He suffered a severe spinal cord injury while on the job and we are raising money to help cover some of his medical expenses and rehab costs. Brit has arranged for some great beer to come our way including a number of beers that are simply not available in San Diego. Look for beers from Russian River, Hollister, Automatic, Big Dog, Sierra Nevada, Maui, Stone, Widmer, Anderson Valley and Kona. In addition, there will be a raffle and a silent auction that will include items like a Lost Abbey Box Set, GABF tickets, a brand new beer engine, a beach cruiser, wines, rare beers and some of Brit's photography. The event will officially run from Noon to 6 pm but the good beer will be flowing all day. For $20 you can get a special tulip glass, 2 raffle tickets and 4 beer pours with all of that money going to the Charity Help Hope Live that is helping to support Brit. We will also have a computer set up if you want to just make a donation (and I will post the information on our Facebook page at: https://www.facebook.com/obrienspubsd). The Silent Auction will have all bids close at 5 pm, so if you want to bid on that 1992 Red Cap Westvleteren, be sure to get there before the cut off. If you can't make it during the day, please stop by and help us enjoy some of the incredible beer that will be on tap Saturday night and during the day on Sunday. Nearly everything that is coming is in a full size keg, so there will be plenty to enjoy all day. Drinking great beer for a great cause is about as good as it gets. If you have something that you would like to donate, please contact Brit at: [email protected].
Thanks for posting, I will try to stop by at least for a little while. Sounds like a terrible situation, but I'm gad to see people willing to lend support.
what were some of the cool raffle prizes? Did you win anything? Do you know about how much they were able to raise?
They had some great stuff donated. - 1 bottle of 1992 Westy 12 - RR Beat b1, Supplication b2, Temptation b2 (went for $200) - 1 bottle each of Westy blonde, Westy 10 and Westy 12 (from '06) - 1 bottle of Izzy (went for $270) Lost Abbey Track Box Set (went for $1200) Field level tickets to the Padres/Yankees A badass Great Divide Yeti sign (went for $600) Cicerone training for 5 Ticket to GABF with behind the scene tour and awards dinner ticket. There were about 24 auctions. If I were to guess how much was raised, I'd put it around $6k. 2 of our group won raffle items, which were goodie bags of brewery (Anderson Valley, Great Lakes, White Labs, Big Dogs) stuff. We missed out on the auctions though; we had bid for the 3 bottles of Westy and the RR bottles. Brit was there, along with Dr. Bill and Tomme Arthur too. Taplist was good. Tried 2 year old Sanctification and 3 year old Temptation. Some good IPAs from Maui/Hollister too.
