This scenario is a tough call. On the one hand, I don't think five month old IPAs should be sold at the brewery and one would assume that if you buy an IPA from the brewery it will be fresh. Why even look at the bottling date. On the other hand, it was a special IPA Release for the third anniversary party so some people may still be interested in buying the beer even if its five months old. I don't think anyone is wrong here. I would try to return it. They should refund your money based on the situation.

But it has Brett. It's not just an IPA. Shelf lives matter.

I thought the beer was just okay. The champagne yeast gave it an interesting spin. not necessarily my cup of tea but it wasn't bad either. As for the hops, I could definitely pick up the mosaic in there but I can't compare to fresh obviously. Would I buy again? No. Was it terrible? No. I still think 4.5 months is pushing the boundaries of what is acceptable at the brewery. In any event, I agree that this is my fault for not checking. I am usually pretty vigilant. The Last Snow was so good, I must have let my guard down. I would take it back but I drove 30 minutes there and it's too much trouble for $14.
