    Senita India Pale Ale
    January 05, 2015

    To All,

We wanted to make you aware that we’ll be changing the name of Heyoka India Pale Ale. Heyoka is a Lakota Native American word. Recently, some members of the Lakota community reached out with disappointment in our usage of the word and requested that we stop.
We didn’t and aren’t going to spend any time defending or explaining our use of the word. We're simply making the right choice and respecting their wishes.

The new name from this point forward is Senita India Pale Ale. We feel good firmly getting behind its new name and hope that you’ll work with us to do the same. New cans, cartons and tap handles will flow out this week, so be on the lookout for the new design.

We had the opportunity to have many conversations and exchanges that landed in a very positive place. In the end, this has been a huge learning experience for Half Acre, and we’re pleased to respect the wishes of the Lakota people. We also feel the name Senita reflects the vibes we’ve always looked for when mapping out this beer and its identity.

We appreciate your support and cooperation.

Was just reading about this, I can only imagine the things in 2015 that are going to have to change their names.

While they are changing things, they should change the font color or background on that press release.

Posted this in the beer news thread:

The thing you have to understand is that to many native tribes the language itself is sacred and one of the few aspects of their culture they can pass onto their children that hasn't been tainted by modern influences. Half Acre did the right thing in renaming their IPA. And as a card carrying member of the Keweenaw Bay Indian Community and Ojibwa tribe as well as a fan of half acre I gladly support both the Lakota people and Half acre for reaching a solution that didn't involve the legal system.

I was curious what Senita was, so I googled it...

    http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=Senita

    Senita
N: A person oblivious to their own miscues, often filled with excuses, and quick to place blame on anyone but themselves.

When confronted on their shortcomings, they have been known threaten legal action without basis and are equipped with painfully unoriginal put downs that take them far too much time deliver.

The natural habitat of a senita is comprised of online marketplaces as well as internet message boards.

They should have renamed it White Guilt.

Kidding. The new name actually fits the beer better IMO.

Actually, it's a cactus. You know, the same one on the label.
