Hi all, I am from Charleston, SC and will be in Gaithersburg for the next week for work... Anything awesome I need to seek out?
Downtown Crown is your best bet for convenience and decent selection. Montgomery County in general is a little tough distribution wise and price wise, but plenty of variety. Pints, growlers, bottles. http://downtowncrownwine.com/ https://www.facebook.com/DowntownCrown/
CJ has told you all you need to know. Downtown Crown is the option for beer lovers in G'burg. Despite our county's shaky distribution, they get some awesome kegs in and it is a great place to grab a few at the bar and leave with some good growlers.
If you plan on visiting Downtown Crown, you should make a pit stop at the Pour House (about 100 yards away). They boast of "90 craft beers on tap", 30-40 of which are from local/regional breweries. Order the "Duck Confit Nachos" and wash it all down with a "Big Punisher" from Jailbreak Brewery from Laurel, MD.
I second everything about going to Downtown Crown and Pour House. Downtown Crown has the best bottle selection in the county and, as mentioned, they have nice rotating keg selections. Pour House has a wide variety of styles on tap and in addition to the Duck Confit Nachos, you should definitely get the Cheese Curds (deep fried cheese balls)! Cheers!
Beer stores and restaurants are all great but if you can I would try to get to Red Shedman Brewery in Mt Airy. Located at the Linganore Winery, this MD Farmhouse brewery is making some great beer. But if you can't get all the way up there (30 minutes). You must go to Dogfish Head Alehouse in Gaithersburg. Only Dogfish on tap and great food.
Agreed with everything said here. Downtown Crown head and shoulders above any other bottle shop in Montgomery County.
Get some takeout from Taco Bar, located in a gas station a few minutes away from Downtown Crown. Take it to Downtown Crown and eat it there while enjoying a beer.
This is the correct answer. Some of the best tacos in the area. Also, prices at the Pour House are horrible (lol at $9 for a glass of Sculpin & $8 for local beers). Downtown Crown has a better list and charge far less.
If you have a car, some new breweries have opened recently in MoCo. Waredaca and 7 Locks. I haven't been to either yet, but I'm hearing good things. Also, could always check out Growler's of Gaithersburg (about 5 mins from Dogfish Head Alehouse).
I went to Waredaca (in Damascus MD) when they had some beers on tap and their beers were all solid. Saison, dark saison, IPA, wheat, and coffee stout (7.5%). Stout was my favorite but all very solid. Check out their website to see if their tap room is open when ur in town
