    Hi guys,

Huge fan of the Mosaic and think some of the other IPA's/DIPS's are pretty damn good. Minus the occasional Onion'y tasting one.

My question is the Citra Pale. People have been raving about it but my experience was not very good. All I could taste was a burn smokey flavor. It dominated over the Citra hop flavors completely. Upon checking some reviews others have said the same thing. Has anyone had this experience and can shed some light on it for me? I bought a few and am sad to say one was half drain poured and I'm stuck with another I might just give to someone.

    thanks!

I tried that one at the brewery and noted the same thing and half thought there might be a line mix up or something with the porter that was on because there was waaaaay too much of a smokey/roasty flavor in there. I even had the bartender try some just to be sure. Apparently thats just how it is sometimes.

And I have to agree, I love the mosaic.

I remember tasting this earlier this summer at the brewery and ended up not buying it there. Thought it just wasn't up to the caliber of there other pale ales and IPA's . Not sure what it was but it just didn't seem to measure up.

I'm drinking mine now and it tastes fine - doesn't come close to the Mosaic, but definitely a servicable beverage.

Is there a date on this can somewhere and I just can't find it? Also, does anybody else find that they can't pour a crowler without dribbling onto the counter? I mean, in principle, I approve of a 32oz can but I seem to be leaving a fairish amount on the wrong side of the glass.

I've watched them pour many crowlers they are the best I have seen a large purge of co2 before the filling with the beer and then always capping on the foam. There crowlers keep the best of any I have had. I've shipped them to friends in other states with no problems. And I have no problem when pouring them into my usual Tulip glass.

I like the Citra but i do prefer their Mosaic. Agree with the very subtle smoke/roast flavor as well. Strange.

I have a buddy who I introduced to GC and he swears by their Citra. It's his most preferred beer that they offer. Different palates i suppose

I just had the citra about an hour and a half ago and it's not as good as the mosaic in my opinion, not sure if it's something to do with the hop it's self or something else but it didn't hit the spot the same as the mosaic did. It was still worth drinking and still enjoyable and I think it has more to do with how good their other beers are. Also noticed that if you let it warm just a little you get some more classic citra flavors.

Man, I've drank a lot of Citra and loved every batch of it. I thought it tasted fine last time I had it. I Never recall any smokiness to it. I know it changed a lot in the first few batches, with batch 2 being a HUGE leap in quality. Will pay more attention when I have it this Saturday. I've always preferred the citra to the mosaic, but that mosaic is definitely growing on me. I may take Enamored and Khaos over either of them, though. What I'm trying to say it, I really like this brewery haha. Will report back if I find anything off about Citra this weekend. See you all at the beer release!

I drank the Citra and the Mosaic back in the end of July. The citra was good, pretty light and citrusy and the mosaic was fantastic. Seemed to have a lot more flavor.

Someone said it earlier, but forget Mosaic or Citra - Khaos is the sh*t.

They do a great job ... a brewery to watch for new beers and their usual rotation. Their crowlers lasted just like any counter-pressure filled growler I've purchased at other breweries.

I agree. I also second the person who mentioned having to learn how to pour them without it spilling down the side. The harder you throw your pour(Think the John Kimmich video) the less spills. I know this throws the hops smells all out and crazy but sometimes I think it really kills the carbonation. I have yet to find a happy medium with the crowler pours. If anything I'd rather be slow and steady and spill a little then fast and furious resulting in a shaken beer going flat.

2:30 - Nothing to do with this thread but for some reason it made me think of it when I was discussing pouring the crowlers.

My experience with Garrison City, draft and Crowlers, has been thus:
Every sampler I have had off the taps at the brewery (sans Tropic Rage) has been very good.
Batch 1 Citra Crowler was filled right in front of me, consumed the next day, and tasted awesome.
Bought a Crowler of Citra at the brewery last Wednesday to take to the Pats game. Shared with friends Thursday evening: hops were DOA. No idea when the Crowler was filled, but the fact that I bought it at the brewery the day before is sad.
All commercial drafts (Khaos, Illusion, Mosaic) were purchased at WHYM in Portsmouth. The first two were fresh kegs and tasted great. The Mosaic had been on for more than a week and had the smoky qualities others have mentioned (similar to what I found in Joint Custody this summer).

I think Garrison City has shown they can brew great IPAs. But I'm just not sold on the Crowler packaging, especially the fact that they are distro'd to local bottle shops (and sold at premium prices) where they often sit for a while, thus killing the hop profile.
