Hello. I am wondering if anyone has used a quick disconnect on their gas line from the regulator and if so what kind did you use? I am wanting to be able to switch between CO2 as well as Nitro/CO2 depending on the beer I have on tap. Right now I have to remove the hose from the regulator output barb and connect it to the other regulator. I have one regulator I used just for CO2 and a separate one for the Nitro tank. Could I use a quick connect like the ones used for compressed air or would it introduce any contaminants into the gas lines? Are there special ones out there just for this application? Thank you.
You can use plastic QD's from Colder Products. The PLC Series are suitable. They can be bought with an inline shutoff or without. Note that the different series are not all compatible, some are some are not. So choose the model you like and stay with that. The PLC Series is a good choice. A worm clamp is less than ideal here, use an Oetiker if you can. Those are the type of clamps used on PEX tubing. You can "rent" the required pincher tool. Use lightly 4 times and return it to Lowes. Compressed air QDs are not NSF listed. Cheers
I use a couple of QD's on my gas line, properly clamped they do not leak. This may be the same as described by @billandsuz , but shows the two pieces. You can find them retail at Morebeer (and maybe others), price for the two pieces are $23'ish. From your description you'll need three pieces; a female w/two males or vice versa. These are made for keggers like us, but any compressed air quick disconnect should work. Beer gas and CO2 are largely inert so nothing to foul the fitting. They do seem to work okay but being plastic I have had one break. Also get your spare o-rings in advance as the one on the male portion tends to be short-lived. One caveat: Under high pressure (50psi for troubleshooting) the female portion will tend to "spit out" the male probe . . . I guess that means she doesn't like it.
