I have a homebrewed stout in a ball lock keg. The beer has been on the keg for weeks with no problem. I removed the gas coupler and the post was leaking gas really bad out of the top of the post. I removed the post and fixed the pop it to seal it. During that process it took a few times and pulled some other Popets and posts from another keg. I don’t remember which parts went to what but they are both ball lock so I they should be interchangeable. Once I finally got the top of post to seal without the gas coupler on it, it now leaks at the bottom of the post. I made sure it was nice and snug. It also now leaks with the coupler on, which has never been a problems before. That’s a long story to simply ask when a post is leaking at the base is it usually the gasket, popet or post?
Try changing the o-ring on the dip tube also make sure that the dip tube is installed the right direction..... I actually have one keg that has groves in the dip tube and the hole so the dip tube will only seat properly if is installed the right direction. I'm not sure how many are like this but only one of the 5 I have is.
Of the dozen kegs I have, all but one of the dip tubes is keyed. The purpose is to ensure that the bend in the tube points toward the divot in the center of the bottom of the keg. The one without is a straight tube with the divot directly below the post. Off the top of my head that's probably the lone Firestone keg among the Corneliuses (Cornelii?).
You are correct. Just curious though.... do all gas dip tubes come out? I have one that I have never been able to to get out let, alone move. I have had the keg for over 11 years almost 12 and have never been able to do anything other than dig out the o-ring with a pick and replace it with a new one. I have never had an infection of any beer but I'm wondering if I should try using a hammer or something along those lines to get it loose and then replace it.....
I have 3 kegs and the dip tubes for both gas and beer come out on all 3. Personally I would leave it be if it’s been that long. Maybe it is permanent and if it is then you would bust the keg. I am going to replace the o-ring and go from there. Cheers.
