I have a conference coming up at the Manchester Grand Hyatt in San Diego. Any suggestions for good beer bars within walking distance (short cab ride)? I assume Gaslamp district is closest, but if there is another area, I'm open to that. Thanks in advance and cheers.
If you want to walk then I second Neighborhood. If you're willing to take a cab ride, just go to Toronado. I just stated next door to the Manchester a couple weeks ago. It was a cheap cab ride.
Walk just a little farther, and go to Downtown Johnny Brown's. You can also jump on the trolley and get off right in front of the plaza where they are at.
Or take a cab into Ocean Beach and hit up Olive Tree (bottles/tasting room), Pizza Port (brewpub), Newport pizza (taproom) etc....and that's all walking once you're in the area.
neighborhood, monkey paw, downtown johnny browns. even yard house (good happy hours!!) also krisp(lol stupidest name change) on 7th and broadway for picking up bottles or just take a ride up the street to hamiltons!
I think I'll be running the Rock n Roll half marathon in SD on 6/1, looks like the course starts around the SD Zoo. I am rather unfamiliar with SD. Looks like the area around the course is generally considered the Gaslamp Quarter. http://runrocknroll.competitor.com/san-diego/course If we do run it, we'll be getting into town on Friday and probably staying through monday so I can hit up some breweries. Hotels seem to be a bit expensive near the course, but I also don't want to stay too far away as the race starts at 6:30 a.m. Should I just look to stay somewhere right down there? Or could I stay slightly out of the area for a lot less? I don't mind paying for a pricey room but if there's cheaper options that are easily accessible I'd consider that too. Would also LOVE to be staying near some great beer bars. Any advice appreciated. Thanks.
If you don't mind hopping in a quick cab, Ballast Point's Little Italy Tasting Room and Kitchen is definitely worth hitting up. Also the Stone Brewing location on Kettner isn't too far.
Random selection rather than starting a new one. So would locals recommend we get a hotel in the gaslamp quarter?
if its too expensive dont do it, its obviously nicer and more convenient than staying somewhere else but its not the only place to stay. old town is near by and you could walk to modern times. or maybe stay at the lafeyette in north park
Thanks, I'll check those areas out. Only concern is being too far away from the race for the 6:30 am start time.
The areas pinkgrenade suggested are pretty close. I assume you'll have a car? If then I would just find somewhere around Hotel Circle (I think it's considered Mission Valley). Less than a 10 min car ride to the start line at that time of day.
except its a cluster fuck driving on race day because some freeways are closed as are many streets. just pay extra money to stay downtown so you dont have to deal with that
Sorry to bring this back from the dead, but my wife will be visiting San Diego and staying at this Grand Hyatt. Are there any breweries or bottle shops that are nearby that she should visit for me?
Bottlecraft in Little Italy is another choice, and there are a few Stone Company stores in the area as well.
