Hello! Wonder to make the trip to the GBG Beer Week in april, but do not know what to expect of the event. Anyone been there before?
Hello, I haven't been, but I'm visiting Stockholm for the first time that same week and wonder if it's worthwhile to make a weekend trip to Gothenburg. Never tried Swedish beer before, but heard some good things about the craft scene in Sweden.
Depends on hoe long you´re staying in Stockholm. Stockholm has probably one of the best ranges of beer in the world. Plenty of world class bars with beer from all over the globe. Akkurat, Man in the Moon, Pressklubben, Brewdog Bar x2, Omnipollos Hatt, Katarina Ölcafé just to mention some of them. You will have a lot of beers to try in Stockholm. But if you have the time to go to Gothenburg, go. But check if there's still tickets. There have been some troubles getting in at the actual "fair" in the past years...
Albin is right on that Stockholm is Amazing, but they actually have no really good breweries. Omnipollo is World class and is a phantom brewer. That is the only great beer producers. The best breweries you will find down South in Sweden, Malmö Area (or Greater Copenhagen as they say in Denmark). Gothenburg has loads of breweries but only a few that is really good. Might sound harsh but Swedish beer is under a lot of development and is improving a lot. I would recomend anyone to go to both Stockholm and Malmö for beer. Gothenburg is also great because it is a mix of Stockholm and Malmö. Good bars, decent breweries.
Thanks for the tips/recommendations. Omnipollo is the only brewer I heard of, and I found out they are making a collaboration beer with Cellarmaker, one of my favorite breweries from San Francisco. So I'm definitely going to try their beer. Thanks for the heads up on Malmo. I may have to make this a 3 city trip.
Cellarmaker also made a beer with Amager, brewed in Copenhagen. The dank dane, and it is really good IPA. You should go to Malmö. Down here is the 3 best breweries in Sweden right now. Brekeriet, Malmö Brewing Co and Brewski. The fact that it is just a 30 minute train ride from Copenhagen makes is a no-brainer really.
I actually had an Amager/Jester King collab beer yesterday, Danish Metal Imperial Stout. Pretty solid.
Are there some places I must visit in Gothenburg ? Brewery Pubs etc? My hotel is in Kungsportsavenyen.
Yes! Must go to: The Rover, Ölrepubliken, Brewers beer bar Should go to: Brewdog Bar, 3 små rum, Haket OK: all Bishops arms is good. Avoid: Ölstugan Tullen, they tend to not Clean their gear so Everything taste sour (in a bad way)
