So I guess this falls under the help category?

How many of you wish you never knew trading beer was a thing? I started trading here in 2007 and can't seem to stop. It definitely feels like a drug these days. I long for the days where I walked into the local bottle shop and picked up a local IPA and knew it was the best because I didn't even know what was being made elsewhere.

Has anyone stopped trading and not had to quit the site?

    Cheers!

    PS: Anyone want to trade?

I keep telling myself that this will be the last trade for awhile and then I'm on the site and going right to the trading forum - just to browse. Before I know it, I've got 3 more trades lined up and am trading some beers that I've never had before. I think I'd definitely have to quit the site for awhile to stop trading. Good God! Someone help me! Get me a Fou Foune! A KBBS! Any shelf turd not in my distro! And do it quick!

    Yeah, I'm with ya brother

Haha so true. I got laid off in May, then got Lyme, then Mom died, and told all concerned I couldn't afford to trade anymore because of all this, and that is when the boxes started to arrive from concerned and super generous traders. Once you start there is no stopping. Quitting the site unlikely to help.

And honestly why would anyone really want to? Come on, is there anything more guaranteed to cheer you up (with your clothes on) than finding a box on the porch, and then opening it? This community is just the most generous, wonderful bunch of folks.

I did go on a 6-10 month tradin break once and it actually coincided with m taking up spear fishing and getting sucked into spnding my money elsewhere. That being said I find it hard to quit and have been trying to do more ip trades of beers I have in the cellar for those I can get off the shelf in my area ( saves me a few bones and I get beers I want more than the ones I have). I'd be lying if I said I never thought of getting myself perma-banned just so I could stop trading, but then I would just be the hungry orphan on thanksgiving staring in the window salivating over all the things I can't have.

If the bros are reading this, maybe they could think of putting in a self induced timeout timer specifically for the trading forum. So you could just log in on a day your determined to stop for a while and lock yourself out of viewing the temptation

I only just started trading back in may and it is seriously a drug. I think I even get a little depressed when i don't have a box to look forward too... I also do a bottle share every sunday so there is this want to bring something new and exciting every week!

I think the main thing is establish boundaries of what you will trade for. I started trading because I wanted to try the big 3, Pliny, ZD, and HT. Once I was able to accomplish that, I went to Top 250 beers that were Wants (Abyss, Parabola, Dark Lord) , limited release or small distribution range (CCB, RR Sours, FFF, Pipeworks). When I try these beers I consider if id trade for these again. Jai Alai was great, but I can get Surly Furious without having to ship, so 6 cans was plenty for me.
I make it a point to only trade for beers I really desire, aka, I dont just trade for the sake of trading. There are plenty of great options in my market (mpls) which makes it easier to fight the urge of trading for certain beers.

I just told myself last week that I needed to not do any trades for a little while.

Then today I find myself posting a ISO for Lindley Park.....
