I've been in Germany (Dusseldorf/Cologne/Dortmund/Bochum) for four (4) days now and I can't tell you how many Diebels Alt I've had. I'm an IIPA **** so this isn't my thing, but it's so smooth and easy to drink ... it's excellent with this 64 degree weather.

Any suggestions for beer to seek when in Berlin this weekend?

I lived in Dusseldorf for about 4 months and liked Diebels. Personally, though, Uerige was my favorite altbier there

Some of the biermischgetraenke (beer mixed drinks) are fun. Diesels, alsters, radlers, bananaweizens.

I came back from a visit to Dusseldorf just a couple of weeks ago, and I tried Diebels among a range of other Altbiers. I thought it was OK but a bit humdrum - plenty of other Alts had more character (especially the Uerige mentioned above).

In Berlin, grab a Berliner weisse like Kindl weisse. Slightly sour/tart, but delicious.

If you do that, I'd recommend not getting the waldmeister (woodruff) syrup. I thought it tasted terrible. The himbeer (raspberry) is alright.
