I have a bit of a "problem". I am the only person in my family, other than a couple of nephews, who is really "into" beer. Getting together with them is difficult to arrange. I have a number of "big" beers in my cellar that I have not opened yet because I don't want to drink them alone, I want to be around some people who can appreciate the beer the way I do. I'm looking for more than "This has a roasted taste."

Don't get me wrong, I love the family and we have a good time drinking Sam Adams and Southern Tier. But I've got a Black Tuesday and a Bourbon County Brand Coffee Stout down there, and I just got a barrel-aged Narwhal. Plus, I've got all three different types of Xyauyù, which were $50 each (a tax refund splurge a few years ago) and are now retired. So you can see why I want people who can pick out more details and help me enjoy the experience.

Does anyone have any tips as to how I can connect with some fellow Advocates in my area to see if we can arrange a tasting (or several)? And more importantly, how we can do so safely considering some people may be driving a fair distance to get here. I've been away from BA for 3 - 4 years with only occasional forays back to keep my account active. A lot has changed since I was last really on a lot. So I'm learning how to do things all over again. It took me a little while to figure out how to add an establishment and how to post this thread. I've also found that although I made a list of my contacts following the beer mail wipe years ago, several of them have moved on. One friend who I've met a few times for trading hasn't been active in a year and a half. He's someone I would definitely want to invite if I could find him.

Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks in advance for your help!

So I'm not sure where you live, but almost every place I've been has had a "cool" beer bar. Go grab a pint and bs with some beer lovers or maybe go look for bottle shares. You could even talk to the bartender of a local bar or brewery, sometimes you can swap beers with them for hookups. Anywhere there is someone who respects beer you should start a conversation with a stranger.

Beer advocate can be a great tool to talk about beer and learn but nothing replaces face to face contact.

Make some new friends who like good beer!

Do exactly what you have done here, post you are looking to do a bottle share and people will respond.
