The first brew day will be the most stressful, and extract is simpler. I brewed one extract batch, one partial mash, and jumped to all grain on the third.

Warning, making your own beer is addictive. I've been doing it nearly 40 years and still learning.

I started brewing all grain, but I watched/helped my brew buddies for a couple of brew sessions before I did my first brew This gave me an idea of what I was getting into and what equipment I would need.

The beers I started brewing were for clones of beers I liked to drink from recipes found on the internet. They might not have matched the beer I wanted to clone but they were close. I would usually end up substituting grains or hops I had on hand for some of the ingredence in the recipe, but they all turned out great. Eventually I got to the point where I can made my own recipes for different beer styles without looking on up on the internet.

I brewed with my buddies during my first few batched before I brewed on my own and let them review my recipes to keep me out of trouble. We still get together several times a year to brew beer.
