I am pretty sure that is still the rule, but I have never tried to get more than that.

I have seen them asking people if they have already had their two, as well as seen them turn people away who are ordering over that limit. I have also seen people have more than two drinks while there. They definitely try their best to not let people over-indulge (in their perspective, not the indulger).

I guess we'll just have to try our luck. Hopefully we can organise a lift up there with some other folk close to when we're going in exchange for some beer or gas money.

"organise"? you a limey or wot? (I am)

I would definitely not advocate drink driving, but as far as I know / have experienced, the two drink limit is in effect. With that said, figuring out a lift instead of driving seems like a massively unnecessary ballache

what about staying the night somewhere locally. hit some parker pie etc

Limey as charged mate. Typing the queens best. If two drink limit is in effect then we'll just drive. It's a real shame, but does cut out the hassle or sorting the lift out.

    Awight awight me old son!

Maybe you guys have plans you can't change. But if you haven't been up there before it's definitely worth hanging about. We've gone up from NYC several times and rented places on Caspian Lake, Shadow Lake and Lake Parker - in all cases very reasonable. You can go to HF, enjoy the brewery and have a couple beers. Then buy a shit ton of beer to go, take it back to the house, drink till you vomit, then head back to Waterbury after staying up there a night or two

2 drink limit? Is this total drinks allowed at the brewery, or allowed per person at the time of purchase?

Total drinks per person for on site consumption.

I thought HF was a destination brewery. People come from all over the world to have 2 drinks?

I've never been there myself, but I'm likely going to be moving to the Boston area soon and was planning on checking it out on a regular basis and doing cannonball runs.

I won't say people need to be protected from themselves regarding visits to HF, but the operation is very cognizant of being located in a somewhat remote area, in a small, cohesive town that will not tolerate the kind of risky behavior that occurs in other "beer meccas" of our state. The State DLC is arbitrary and notoriously punitive when it comes to enforcement of VT's surprisingly retro liquor laws, and recently paid a visit incognito to HF. Needless to say, the 2-drink limit is an effort to keep patrons, as well as townspeople safe, and avoid overserving which can instantly shut it down for all comers, as well as incite stiff fines for the brewery. Have a couple pours, buy some to take with, and enjoy at your leisure!

As has been said many times before: its a brewery, not a bar. Hill Farmstead should be applauded for being responsible just as drunk drivers should be shunned for being irresponsible. If you wanna get drunk on their beers do it at a Vermont bar and then stumble to a hotel. Or in your own home off the limitless HF bottles you can bring back.

You can drink as many small tasters as you want, so you can try a lot of different beer, you just can't drink full pours. They are not a bar.

I don't know if I'd even make that distinction exactly. There is literally a bar after all. It's just a bar that puts a heavy emphasis on quality over quantity. The last time I was there, I had a 2014 Cherry Flora. It was amazing. But I'm not trying to get drunk on $20 pours of vintage barrel aged sours. That's not the point of drinking something like that. I can get drunk at home and for a lot less money if that's the goal. I buy beers at Hill Farmstead to get something I'd never have access to otherwise, and to take my time and really savor it.

And again, they let you drive away with an essentially unlimited amount of growlers, cans, and bottles. If the fact that they won't let you get drunk on premise is a dealbreaker for you... fine. Do a favor to those of us who appreciate quality and go somewhere else.

    .
I feel like the thread has gotten lost a bit. We're not coming over to get wrecked at the brewery, just would prefer to not drink & drive up there at all, even after a few pours. It does however, seem like that's our only option, short of organising a lift with someone. It's just something we're not used to in the UK, where it's essentially zero tolerance.

I’m likely heading to HF from Waterbury tomorrow (Friday) on the off chance tomorrow is the day you were looking for a ride.
