Went to Gettysburg this weekend and stopped at the Battlefield Brew Works. Place is awesome. Gettysburg has great beer again and all is well with the world.

I had their imperial stout, pumpkin beer (cask) and the imperial IPA.

IMO. Just wrong to link the historical tragedy of the battle of Gettysburg to beer production. A kin to Brooklyn or Sixpoint brewing offering a 9/11 ale or World Trade Center Stout.

Historical tragedy? Linking beer? Gettysburg saved the nation. And who is linking anything to anything other than a great place to go in a great place to go. What twaddle.

Agreed. I think enough time has passed since the battle that we can have some perspective on Gettysburg. There was certainly tragedy, but there's more to the story and history of the Battle of Gettysburg than just people dying. The fate of the country really did turn in that battle, and I think most Americans would say it turned for the better. It's really not analogous to the 9/11 WTC terrorist bombing of innocent civilians at all.

Uh people live in Gettysburg bro. The whole town is not a memorial. There are hotels right next to battlefields.. souvenir shops, etc.

What I'm wondering is.. is BBW better than Appalachian? I wasn't really impressed with that place.

BBW is, should stay better than Appalachian-seems to be striving for the upper echelon of breweries. Wonder what Kiwi would say about General Picketts buffet, or the beer garden in Hitlers Eagles Nest.

So your all down for selling popcorn and snow cones at the Kennedy Memorial too?? Hallowed ground gets no respect in Gettysburg Pa.

By your logic, the whole city of Dallas should be a memorial because a historical tragedy happened there. Gettysburg isn't just the battlefield, a plaque, and a ton of flags.

The entirety of the local Gettysburg economy is built on the fact that a major battle was fought there. Visiting the battlegrounds -- stop at our Outlet Mall! Take our Haunted Tour! It's a tourist site (much like Kennedy's grave).

There is still a ton of field and landscape that remain unchanged from the battle. Little Round Top; Big Round Top; Cemetery Ridge -- all largely unchanged except for some memorials. Gettysburg was a functioning town before the battle. It's a functioning town today. This isn't exclusive to Gettysburg -- there's a Battlefield Auto Body and an Battlefield Heating and Air in Fredericksburg, Va. Also in Fredericksburg -- Blue and Gray Brewery, which is Civil War themed, where you can purchase a Stonewall Stout or a Franklin's Crossing IPA.

Unfortunately aren't there souvenir hawkers down by the WTC site and have been for more than a decade? About the biggest crime a Gettysburg brewery is responsible for, is the worst name for a beer ever: winner: Amberham Lincoln by the late, great Gettysburg Brewing Company.

If there was a brewery in Gettysburg that opened say in 1905, would that be OK? This is moronic, a town can't have a craft brewery because a battle happened there 150 years ago. Is there a brewery in Brussels? After all Waterloo was fought just outside- right-o. I am not even returning to this forum because this topic is not even worth discussing (as I chomp on a pretzel from the Gettysburg Pretzel Company and eat candy from the Gettysburg Candy Company- over 1000 kinds).

As a Gettysburg resident I can tell you that the hallowed ground gets plenty of respect here.
