So I'm heading to Ghent for a week on Monday and was just wondering if I had missed anything exciting and have some questions.

Last year we spent most of our time at Het Waterhuis aan de Bierkant as it has great seats by the canal and a massive selection and will probably spend a lot of time there again this year. I Also plan to be in De Dulle Griet a lot as our apartment is 2 minutes walk from there. De Trollenkelder also seems to have a great selection, looks a bit pricey for something's but I'm on holiday and not overly concerned with overpaying a bit and also they appear to have Westvleteren.

Am I missing any other bars that will have a big choice, we'll be going to plenty of bars with more classic selections but am I missing any great spots?

Is there any beer shops anyone can recommend? I've heard De Struise and Fantôme are very difficult to find, also I'm a sucker for De Moelen and Mikkeller, any shops sell a selection of less common imports?

    Anywhere I should avoid?

    Thanks in advance.

Great places to eat with a very nice selection of beers: http://www.destokerij-gent.be/en (in an old distillery, very beautiful building) and http://www.eetkaffee-multatuli.be/en . Both places are from the same owners and same style, so you don't need to visit them both. Reservation is highly recommended!

Besides the Hopduvel you certainly have to visit Dranken Geersv(http://www.drankengeers.be/site/en) in Oostakker. Cheaper than Hopduvel and massive amount of Belgian and international craft beer. They always have Struise and Fantome. A bit out of the center but there are a lot of buses (70-71-72-73-74 destination Oostakker) that stops on 100 meter of the shop.

I don't like de Dulle Griet: tourist trap, unfriendly service and high prices.

Have a nice trip to Ghent!

    Cheers everyone.

Dulle Griet is gonna become a staple I feel as its so close to our apartment, costs not a major issue as its gonna be cheaper than the UK anywhere, if the staff are rude though maybe it won't be frequented much!

@ventura78 I think the wife will appreciate the experience there! She's a bit mad to say the least...

I've always had a good time at De Dulle Greit. That's cool that it's near your apartment. If you get a chance, post some thoughts about your visit to "T Velootje if you make it there.

@ventura78 we never went to T'velootje, the day we went to go it was really sunny so went somewhere we could drink outside.
Dulle Griet was ok, damn pricey tho, was really smelly outside it too unfortunately, shame because the weather was great and it's a beautiful square to sit in.
Trollekelder is one of the finest pubs I've ever been in! Never realised it was five minutes from our apartment til we got there, ended up spending most nights in there. Had every Trappist beer in production, including the newer Abbeys, over 20 lambics, 10+ De Struise and about another 200 beers. Plenty more modern stuff like De La Senne too. Service was the best we found and prices were cheap IMO.

Sounds good! I'll have to pay more attention to Trollekelder on my next visit. The lineup is usually Het waterhuis aan de Bierkant first then Dulle Griet.

    Cheers
