Ok, so I found a few bottles of GI Fleur on the shelf of a local store today, and they were only $5.99, so I grabbed one. I figured it was on a rotating basis with the other GI Belgians. Turns out it is retired. The bottle I got was from the 2010 batch.

Question is, is Fleur sought after since it's retirement? Should I have bought more? I haven't had it yet, but for $5.99 it's a good deal.

Also,it's listed online (here and GI site) that it is 5.2% ABV, but the bottle says 7%...any clues here?

No. It's not sought after. At 5.99 it's a great deal, as it's a pretty darned solid beer. Try it, and if you like it, pick up the rest for yourself at that price. It doesn't seem as popular because it doesn't have the powerful taste that Juliet or Madame Rose has.

Good deal. Thanks man. I'm not terribly familiar with all of GI's Belgians, but they seem to have a good rep, so I figured why not.

I LOVE GI Fluer. I bought some a couple months ago when it just showed up in Michigan. It's very refreshing, the hibiscus really comes through and it's a great summer brew. Wish they still brewed it.

If you paid 5.99 a bottle that's way high. I paid 10.99 a 4 pack from 2 different places around me

Had no idea it was retired. I seriously see this beer all over New England. Guess I'm going to have to try and grab some before its all dried up.

Oh gotcha, not bad then. I didn't know it was available in bombers, I've only seen 12oz

As far as GI's "retirements" go, I don't really believe them. They list a bunch as retired on their site, but I see a lot of them hanging around. Especially Demolition....I mean, who really knows....marketing scheme?

No. They do a lot of special events like vintage nights at their brewpubs where they'll have a smaller batch of retired beers to drink.

I was kind of wondering the same- I walked into a store & found some Big John recently..

Since this thread has the magic words "GI" and "Retired Beer", I'd give it 2 weeks before the shelves around me are barren of Fleur.

they're retired for a reason (e.g. nightstalker, which you can still find on shelves, because it was retired because no one wants it). big john was a solid RIS, but nothing anyone's really rushing out to buy.

it's like great divide... i love great divide, but they left my state's distro a year or so ago, and i still see them all over shelves. that's why they pulled out of my state to begin with.

The original bottling was 5.2% but wasn't tart enough initially. In my opinion it took at least 9 months to pick up any tartness. Goose changed the recipe and upped the abv to 7.0% and it became tart to begin with. It's a nice beer. I don't know why they retired it. It's so much better than Pepe Nero.

Are you sure on this? My 12oz bottles are 2011 and have a bottling date of 05/04/11 and read 5.2%. So my bottles came after the OP 2010 bomber which reads 7%. Maybe your flipping them around?

Agree it's much better than Pepe Nero.
