I just picked up a few bottles of GI Night Stalker from one of my regular shops. The owner (said he) got them in today. I asked around at a few of my other shops and none of the guys I normally talk with knew anything about a GI Night Stalker re-release.

    Bottles are dated 03/06/2012

Beer is BCBS base beer that has been dry-hopped (no doubt the dry hops are gone at this point)

Does anyone know anything about this release? Did the owner just find a buried box in his back room but not fess up? Do these have any trade value?

    Thanks!

There's no trade value. Night stalker sits on shelves for months. I've seen it around lately as well. Didn't check the date.

I always enjoyed Nightstalker but it doesnt hold much trade value. One vintage supposedly had infection issues but I never tasted a bad one. I really doubt your store just got them in but who knows

I saw some last week in Chicago (at I believe Beer Temple or was it Binnys Lincoln Park?) that was from 2010.

I read in Beer Talk a few months ago that Goose Island had changed distributers or something so a bunch of old stock had hit markets, including that Nightstalker (I've got one myself :stuck_out_tongue:)

I picked up a night stalker at my regular place in the south burbs, bottle date was 2010. Thoroughly enjoyed it.

Just had one today too. Plenty going on and still a little "hot"--I might be mistaken, but I thought that I also got a little bit of the hop "leftovers" from 4 years ago too.

Had one for the first time last week at a bottle share (no idea what vintage) and I was amazed that this same beer put in a barrel could be so much better and different. It was, like OP said, boozy and just not all that impressive. It was an enlightening experience on how a barrel can completely transform a beer.
