Well even though Chicago is a good sized city, 25 k bottles released in that one city seems pretty frigging plentiful to me.

Certainly keep, this in mind when trading, thanks formtheminfo!

Well, but it is Chicago. Lol. On the real though, when I copied it over the quote was too long, and the asterisk footnote may have not been read by everyone- that value is without kegs. So even if we're gracious with kegging, and we cut everything in 1/2 Chicago is still looking at more than 12k bottles! 12,000, people!!!! That IS NOT rare! Don't trade like its bud light, but don't think you have Blauw either...<drops mic>

You guys keep mentioning the supply and are neglecting the demand.

Especially with craft beer (and especially these past couple years), I feel like misconceptions about supply of certain beers drives demand, both because of the "what's the value of ____?" reasons and the not-that-uncommon hoarder mentality. I just want to eliminate any misconceptions about the supply. Also, I think my divide by 2 was pretty conservative. I would be surprised if half of VR and Prop batches are going into kegs. Anyway, I know they won't be shelf turds, just hope people are rational and realistic about how much is really out there.

Why would anybody want a beer with a 30,000 bottle count?
I bet it doesn't even taste rare

I managed to get 2 bottlesnof Vanilla, plusni had it on tap, and I can say without a doubt that I will be drinking both along with good friends. The other varieties were pretty easy to find, in Jax.

I feel like thats a great offer too. I have a feeling in a couple days things will slow down and maybe some trades will start happening

Which brings up an interesting question -- if you have a Vanilla or Prop, is it more "strategic" to try and get your ideal trade in now, while the frenzy is on, or do you wait a couple months so that you're FT stands out a bit more? I use the scare quotes because I'm don't want to imply anything like gouging -- more like, "Does my offer get seen/stand out/considered more now or later?"

I have a vanilla and prop and with the amount of time I spent in line I probably won't trade them ( I have 2x of both); however, and what I would recommend is give it a week. With the exception of big stores (Binny, Jewel, Costco, Walgreens) most stores were just starting to get shipments today.

So I bet a lot more hit the market in the next week as the small local shops get their allotments.

It will be hard to pry a bottle from someone who has only 1 or 2 bottles but as more hits the city over the next week and some people get cases I think it will be easier to get some trades moving.

Luckily scored an extra Vanilla I'd really like to try some Russian River sours, Bruery stouts, or Firestone Barrelworks. Not looking to beat anyone up but would this plus some Backwoods work? I don't think California gets Founders but may be wrong.

My prop and vanilla were given to me by my good friend and trade partner which is why I won't be parting with either of them.

However had I froze my butt off in line and grabbed one of each I would have traded both for the assassin a long time ago.

My first impressions of this release are allotments were spread to a bunch of different places giving a bunch of different people the opportunity to wait hours in line for two bottles. Rather than a few people buying cases you run into lots of people not ready to trade what little they had to brave the elements for.

I think right now people are just happy to have what they have and they don't want to get rid of them.
But like anything else, just wait a month of two.

But I do think, in the long term that vanilla rye will trade significantly higher than backyard and proprietors 2014 will trade 1:1 with 2013 proprietors.

I offered up a regular 2009 BCS bomber for a vanilla and only heard crickets. I thought it was more than fair and would get done right away. I'll wait a week and let things calm down.

In my opinion, this years prop is not very good, my girlfriend agreed. She couldn't understand why everyone on untappd was giving it 5 stars,
