Im looking to brew a beer for my wife for our anniversary coming up soon. We had this awesome stout at the southern sun in Boulder Colorado 3 years ago. It was called something like girl scout peppermint patty stout. We really loved it and I know it would be a great gift for her to have on tap at the house.

Have any of you guys or gals ever had this beer? I want to say it might have been a homebrew competition winner or something like that.

Does anyone know a good starter recipe? I was figuring I would do a somewhat standard stout and dry hop with crumbled peppermint pattys, but it feels like it needs something else. The original was creamy but I dont recall it seeming like an oatmeal stout.

Why not mint leaves and chocolate malts, cocoa, or nibs? You'll want this one thick. Carapils will be a must.

I don't think you're allowed to put girl scouts in beer.

I'd brew up something like an oatmeal stout myself.. Keep it nice and thick and malty. Mash high.

I would add cocoa nibs to the primary. Regardless of what homebrewers want to say, I got this tip from some pro brewers and the chocolate note from fermenting on a baby bed of nibs is AMAZING.

Use some pale chocolate malt and some chocolate malt in the grist. Some dutched cocoa around 2-3ounces in the boil as well at 10 minutes.

I would use some vodka/bourbon and make a mint extract if I could. I'd avoid the greasy peppermint patties myself. I'd get the mint flavor where I wanted, and add it to the beer in secondary/keg or close to bottling. I would also add some vanilla, it will bring out the creamy chocolate notes as well in the beer.

    I vote 20% Munich malt.

Oh, it's no problem at all. You just gotta make sure and chop them up small enough to get maximum flavor.

Actually Naugled had it right. You have to use girl scout extract in this country. In UK they use actual Girl Guides though. Very subtle on cask.
