What can I expect out of Glacier hops? Will this hop be good as a feature in an IPA? Thnking of using Simcoe for bittering, several flavor/aroma additions of Glacier near end of boil, Citra for whirlpool and dry hop. I've seen that Glaciers are good for aroma, and can have a sweet pear/apricot taste, which sounds great with an IPA; but then I've also seen that they are similar to Fuggles and/or Williamette - which makes me think they will not work for an IPA at all.

Yep, you are right on IMO- I get pear/apricot from them in late additions and they are quite aromatic. I think if you go hog wild with the Citra you will over-power the glaciers though.

BTW- Willamette's are great hops for IPA, shame on you! Ya know what is funny about those hops, Styrian's, Fuggle, Willamettes. I get apricot from late addition Styrian's but not from Fuggle (which to me are overly earthy) and Willamettes are more citrus/earthy/spicy.

Yes, good point about Williamettes - I guess I am thinking fruit/citrus for this IPA, ie American-style, while Williamettes make me think more so of earth and spice, which lend better to English style. I've never used them in an IPA for that reason, so I'm not really speaking from experience.

Sounds like balance between Citra and Glaciers will be key. Thx.

Go drink a Surly Bitter Brewer (All Glacier).
