While I love almost all styles of beer, like many people around here IPA's are my favorite. I like to do local where I can but it when comes to IPA's I feel forced to turn to California, Colorado or Midwest beers to get my IPA fix.

Don't get me wrong there is some decent Texas IPA's but are often limited availability (ABW HM or Hop Delusion), limited distribution (Lone Pint or Community), past it's prime (Endeavor), inconsistent (Deep Ellum) or otherwise somewhat uninspiring (I leave these unnamed). I wish it weren't the case but I find, more often than not, most Texas IPA's fall into one of these categories.

Am I wrong here? How do you get your IPA fix? Do you have a Go-To Texas IPA?

Yeah, I remember the thread. I guess in the end, I align more closely with where LarryK left off. Despite my wanting to find a regular standout Texas IPA, with a of couple of exceptions (mostly seasonal or limited distro and availability), largely I prefer the out of state options. Perhaps, I should retry Lost Gold, Man o' War and possibly others but tough to do with the other options out there.

I agree with you whole-heartedly on Yellow Rose, maybe I just need to find steady growler fills in Austin.

Hop delusion, fresh Endeavour. This latest batch of Yellow Rose is better too.

Fresh endeavor is as good as it gets IMO.

Latest batch of Yellow Rose is fantastic! Hop Delusion would likely be my go-to if it was available year round. I sometimes pick Endeavor.

I too am often choosing CA or CO IPAs/IIPAs even though Texas is making inroads in this category. For me, it often depends on what is freshest when I go to the store.

It's very rare that I walk in to a bar that does not have Yellow Rose on tap. I'm definitely ok with this :grinning:

I wish Yellow Rose made it to Dallas! I live off of Community Mosaic (although I will admit that Fresh Squeezed and Myrcenary have taken over recently), but I tried Yellow Rose in Houston a while back and loved it.

I'd give DEBC IPA another try. The new brewer is preaching consistency, who knows if it will actually happen, but it would be great to have that beer regularly available as good as it was when it first came out.

So I have a 1/6 BBL of the DEBC IPA (four days old when I tapped it) that I bought based on how much I liked in in the cans - but the two are completely different to me. I have been getting floaties in the in cans, but the cans taste much better and have a better aroma. I did a side by side with Mosaic to see which keg i would buy and the DEBC was the winner for me. But disappointed in the keg. Maybe its the floaties that taste so damn good.

It's always about freshness. I like St Arnie's Endeavour, Community's Mosaic, 512's IPA and IIPA. Southern Star's Valkyrie is excellent but got a bad wrap because of some problems with the first batch. DEBC's IPA is good again, and Dream Crusher is around currently.

So SS got Valkryie's issues worked out? I haven't had it since the 1st run. As a matter of fact, I still have 1 can. Probably ought to chunk that can.

Just had a friend come in from San Diego... he loved Yellow Rose.... thought it hung with the best of his area.

I love many Texas beers, but I don't have a go to IPA in Texas yet.

Ya I'm confused. First batch was the bottles which were bad. Second batch in cans was also bad. Still have two cans in my fridge waiting for mortal enemies to stop by so I can make them drink it. I'm not aware of another batch but its possible.

For me, any IPA from Lone Pint...especially Yellow Rose. We are spoiled in Texas.

I've only had ban can and bad bottle batches, so I have stayed away since then. Only good batch I've experienced was the original ProAm

Thanks for all the replies. I have gone back to DEBC recently, unfortunately the six pack was off. Perhaps they are a holdover from the old brewer but I couldn't tell because there are no dates on the cans. Speaking of dates, Endeavor has them but they are usually old. Lots of folks weighing in on behalf of Community and Lone Pint, which I agree with but neither are readily available in Austin. I suppose I'll keep trying to turn over some other stones or rely on some of the out of state brews. Lots of great Texas beer available here, just not as many tasty IPA's as I'd prefer. Cheers anyway.

If you are in Houston, Specs downtown and D&Q usually have pretty fresh batches of Endeavour, but I have seen some pretty old ones at HEBs and smaller Specs. Can't speak to other cities though

Thanks, next time I'm there I'll pick up some freshies. Unfortunately, fresh Endeavours seem to be pretty few and far between around here.
