Looked up the places on BA but the amount of shops is staggering. Can anyone narrow it down? Any locals to watch out for? Thanks for the help!!

Jenifer St. Market is a good shop. Cash only, stuff seems to hang out a bit longer. That's one of my favorites. It's pretty close to both One Barrel & Next Door Brewing Co. as well.

Nothing like a little lunch at Brasserie V as well. Smoked salmon BLT and some great beers!

Brasserie V is only open for dinner on Sundays. If you like mosaic hopped IPAs, Steve's & Hy-Vee still had TG's Pompeii as of yesterday. It wouldn't surprise me if it was still hanging around elsewhere too.

I'd say Woodman's is your best one-stop-shop if you are just swinging through town.

Woodman's is your best bet. When I lived in Wisconsin and was young and broke, Woodmans was a life saver. Great prices and employee owned. Id suggest picking up a New Glarus sampler pack and some Capital beer. Capital Supper Club and Wisconsin Amber are 2 of my personal favorites.

Steve's University is your best bet between 12-6PM.

Thanks a bunch guys. Stopped at several of your recommended shops and got a lot of stuff I never had. Thanks again!

Going to be staying in downtown Madison. Any specific beers I should be looking out for? I'm coming from California, so I'm not too aware of the local brews besides New Glarus of course. Doesn't have to be from WI, any distribution will work! Definitely looking for sours, stouts, or fresh IPA's.

@ryanschimmele , any chance you can rate the list of stores while you were out there?

If you are into IPA's check out Fantasy Factory by Karben4. One of the best in Wisconsin. Only place to buy bottles is in Madison.

I've picked them up in Beloit in the past and I've seen Karben4 bottles as far east as Oak Creek.

You can buy block party in Milwaukee just not fantasy factory. Not sure on Beloit. The shops there might be driving to get them and bring them back as that I heard they only distribute fantasy factory bottles to the Madison area.

I've found Karben4 in Beloit and Wisconsin Dells area, so it definitely gets out of Madison thru distro.

Anyone still see white XHops around Madison?

I'm sure I saw bottles at Woodman's West on my mad Sue search last Friday.

Capital, Lake Louie and Horny Goat would be on my must-try list.

I actually advise not trying Horny Goat. There are very few worse breweries in this state.
Except for their chocolate peanut butter porter, which is surprisingly exceptional.

Everything else > water > Horny Goat > Big Head Brewery > Budweiser

    That bad.

    Ranked in order.

    4. Woodmans
    3. Whole foods
    2. Hyvee
    1. Steve's

Steve's was great and I could I'd dropped some major coin in there. Bourbon selection was great also if you like bourbon.

I'm not familiar with Big Head but my list would be:

    Everything else > Water > Budweiser > Horny Goat > Minhas/Rhinelander

    That bad.
