Hey guys I'm going to be in Akron later this coming week. What bottleshops and breweries should I hit. I know hoppin frog is in Akron. I can't drive too far from Akron but hoping I can bring back some good stuff with me to NJ. Any bottles I should keep an eye out for as well.

If you go to Hoppin Frog, then you must got to Thirsty Dog. They are only 5 minutes from each other. Thirsty Dog's tasting room is only open on Wednesday-Saturday though. They are releasing their new BA beers this coming week... so if you don't go, then you are fucking crazy. Thirsty Dog had their BA Wee Heavy on tap on Friday. Also, Hoppin Frog is brewery only (until ~July) in case you wanted to try anything on site.

Vintage Estate Wine and Beer in Boardman, OH makes 101 bottles look like child's play. 101 bottles is a great place, but no where close to having the best selection in NE Ohio. I love both places, but Vintage Estate could be the best beer store in Ohio. My comment means nothing to ShemRahBoo though because it's far away.

Some Acme grocery stores in the Akron area are decent as well.

I might be slightly biased though because I picked up my Westy 12 from Vintage Estate last year and every time I make my way up there with people I'm buzzed. Hahaha.

Sweet, something that definitely is towards my interests. I can probably go their on Wednesday, hopefully I can get some...how is this going to be like there won't be lines or anything? Also is the day it will be aailable known I checked their website and don't see anything.

Also can you get samples at hoppin frog? I've tried a lot of their stuff but will definitely grab some of their IPAs and stuff I dont see here.

Forgot to add two of the beers I definitely need to get are white rajah and headhunter, maybe columbus IPA as well. Are these fairly easy to find?

I believe so, but just like any other place that sees those, they are gone almost instantly.

I would just call on Monday or Wednesday. I was told to call before I come in. From my experience, they keep a low profile and don't over hype their own beer. They acted like they didn't even know exactly when they would let customers purchase it when I stopped in on Friday. Maybe it's a lack of organization, but I like that they don't seem to care about having some big blow out release like other breweries.

No samples at Hoppin Frog. They won't have a tasting room until around late July. I believe their Gangster IPA is around 2-3 weeks old as of 5/17.

Thanks for the response. How hard will it be to find columbus IPA, white rajah or any brew kettle, and headhunter? Also any recommendations in Akron or surrounding area in general for bars and what not.

Just found out my hotel arrangements. Ill be staying at the Akron Quaker Inn at UA. Lockview, 69 taps, baxters are very close walks to me so that's cool. I should be able to hit up thirsty dog and hoppin frog, and if time permits want to drive to the brew kettle. Anyone in the area want to point me to a store where I can find columbus and brew kettle brews (possibly jackie o's)? What is the availability of their stuff. Out of the ACME's, mustard market, portage lakes, and the westpoint market what stores would have the best selection. Sorry for asking so many questions I just want to be efficient with my time as I am primarily going to watch my brother at the university nationals wrestling tourny. So the time I do have I want to find some gems to bring back.

Wear point market will have mostly all of the beers aside from Jackie-o's and white rajah has been vet hard to ding lately, but like I said 101 bottles in kent is a must also

Makes sure you pick up some head hunter ipa, should be very easy to find and Columbus ipa is about the only beer you'll be able to find from Columbus brewery

Headhunter and Columbus ipa are easy to find at any decent bottle shop and acme stores. White rajah may be a bit more difficult to find. Might as well just go to the brew kettle taproom and get it straight from the teet

I really want to go right to the brew kettle, just am not sure if I can do it. Surprisingly my cousin came home from pittsburgh this week and brought home 2 cases of headhunter. This IPA is ridiculously good, I'll definitely by more. How does the columbus and rajah compare?

Anyways thanks for the advice, I'll let you guys know how it all went when I'm back.

You'll get varying answers on that one. I think fresh Rajah is far and away better than the other 2. Not that the others are bad, because I like them a lot too. I'm sure there are many others who think the exact opposite.

Oh, and I also think Columbus Bodhi is the best beer in Ohio. Its not bottled though, so you'd have to find a place with it on tap.
