I'm actually going to Culpepper VA this weekend but will be stopping at Aslin on the way from NJ. Want to know others thoughts regarding local breweries in the vicinity (Lost Rhino, Old Ox, Crooked Run, Ocelot, Solace). I'm actually looking to trim that down(Aslin, Ocelot, Solace) as my wife is a wine person but open for recommendations. What about around Culpepper-Pen Druid?. Thanks for the input.

I'd definitely pass on Old Ox and Lost Rhino, pretty mediocre brews for the most part. I've had a few from Solace that were good (Juicy Lucy and their NEIPA), might be worth grabbing a crowler if you're going to Ocelot (they are really close to each other). Crooked Run is solid (Aslin and Ocelot are far better imo) and if you want to eat, they have good tacos.

Old Busthead is probably on your way to Culpeper from northern VA, again fairly mediocre but if you just want to hit up breweries then it's probably convenient for you.

If your wife is a wine person, you might want to consider Quatro Goombas, they have beer and wine. I've also heard Barrel Oak Winery has beer, never been though.

Never been to Pen Druid-looks interesting. My brother swears by Fahr Gohn (sp?) in Culpeper, but he's a neanderthal (again-sp?) when it comes to good beer. Load up on Aslin for sure-they're the best.
Agree with the others on Ocelot and Crooked Run - they can have some really good stuff, but also some really mediocre stuff. Going to Solace for the first time today.

Let me know if you would your thoughts on Solace and if there something specifically exceptional on tap. Thanks

Not too bad, but nothing exceptional. I did a flight there - the stout was decent but nothing special. Their double IPAs are pretty good, but not at Aslin level. Grabbed a crowler of Lucy Juicy and did enjoy their Partly Cloudy (NEIPA).

Definitely hit Far Gohn and Pen Druid. Cheese Co. in old town should have some decent bottles/cans.

A couple other breweries very close to Culpeper worth checking out if you have the time are Powers Farm and Brewery in Midland and Old Trade Brewery. I'd go to Old Trade if you only have time to visit one. There's also a brewery in Warrenton called Wort Hog if you have time. Grapevine in Warrenton has bottles and cans. Seems like a new brewery is opening up in VA every week. Basically if you have a barn and brew beer open a brewery.

Thanks to everyone who provided their suggestions. Ended going to Aslin and Ocelot. Both were excellent. Aslin was cans only but still well worth it. Went to Crooked Run, but it was closed. Stopped at Diamondback in Baltimore on the way back and it was OK, nothing special. Thanks again.

Didn't make it to Far Gohn or Pen Druid? You were so close.
