    Hey all,

Im going to be visiting some friends in Atlanta the first week af April. Wondering if yual can give me some insight into some local beers that I should try/take back up to WI with me.

    Thanks

If you're lucky, you'll find some Creature Comforts Tropicalia or possibly their Cosmik Debris (not exactly sure when this one will hit the market this year). Another would be Orpheus Transmigration of Souls. Of course, I'm assuming you like IPA/DIPA. Burnt Hickory Didjits may also be out around that time, an excellent blood orange IPA. Enjoy your stay!

Depends on your definition of local. Considering that you're from WI, I'd extend beyond Georgia beer to consider other SE beers. In that case...

If you like sours, then you really cannot go wrong with any of Wicked Weed's sours. There is a *slim* chance that Westbrook Gose will be back on shelves by April--so grab some of that for sure if you see it. More locally, people are going crazy for Creature Comforts Athena Paradiso (Berliner with cherry, cranberry, and raspberries), and plain ol' Athena is nice, too. And I have to give a shout out for Orpheus Atalanta, a no-frills straightforward tart saison with plums.

If you like IPAs, then I'm going to tell you that Orpheus's IPAs are the real way to go. Transmigration of Souls is my favorite IPA, and it has nothing to do with being a DIPA--it's just a damn flavorful beer. The Rites is their new year-round IPA, and it merits at least a try. Of course, the consensus is that Creature Comforts Tropicalia is best, and I'm not going to argue with its greatness. And their Cosmik Debris DIPA should be in cans by that point. But it all comes down to a matter of preference, and I simply prefer Orpheus's IPAs. Ditto on @ScottDawg7's recommendation for Didjits--assuming its relatively fresh when you find it.

If you like stouts, then do know that Burnt Hickory's Kolb's Farm is set to be released in April. Whether it actually will go into distro, I have no idea. But if it does, then you need to be on the lookout for it. I'd also recommend Evil Twin Even More Jesus (actually brewed at Westbrook) if you don't get it where you're at.

After Creature Comforts, Orpheus, Burnt Hickory, Westbrook, and Wicked Weed, other breweries/beers of note:

Three Taverns, especially A Night on Ponce IPA and Heavy Bell (BBA Quasimodo quad)
Wild Heaven, especially Height of Civilization tequila-barrel aged barleywine, which was brewed last year, but I still see on shelves - damn amazing stuff
Jailhouse Brewing, on the off-chance that their Thieves in the Law Russian Imperial Stout returns by April. Probably my favorite non-barrel aged RIS stout brewed locally
Straight to Ale, for their Illudium, Unobtanium, and Laika
Cigar City for Jai Alai IPA and Maduro Brown

And if you get out any, then make your way to the Porter Beer Bar and Brick Store Pub in ATL. And if you have a car and a driver (this is important), then go to Cumming and visit Cherry Street Brewing's taphouse. They are making some of the most amazing beers in the state--trust me on this one. (You just have to consume them there--yes, our laws suck. But it's worth the effort.)

And there's plenty of threads already concerning Atlanta must have beers. Someone creates a new one at least once a week.
