Would also say avoid Brooklyn Brewery (unless they've changed the set-up there - tbh it was several years ago that I went, but when I did it was a busy tourist trap). If you want to go to that part of Brooklyn just hit the bars that have already been recommended.

Near to Other Half I'd recommend Folksbier and Bar Great Harry

Near-ish (but a decent walk or a stop or two on the subway) to Other Half I'd recommend Threes Brewing, Mission Dolores, Owl Farm, Jake's Handcrafted and Double Windsor.

Really pushing the boundary of being "close" to Other Half are Gold Star Beer Counter and Covenhoven. But I think they're both awesome places and worth the effort.

And on a non-beer recommendation you can grab the bus to Redhook only two blocks from Other Half, and go to Hometown BBQ. Best BBQ in NYC in my opinion.
