I am leaving for germany july 16 for nfour days we were gonna do some tourist stuff drink some beer and my big thing was going to be driving on the nurburgring a very famous race track built by ****** well it turn out thats not gonna work being 6 hours from where i will b staying in munich so now that i have a free day to pick something to do if u had one day in germany beer wise what is a bucket list brewy or beer i must i do or try thanks
I would say stop by Augustinerbräu and the Hofbräuhaus. Both of them serve great beer in a nice, traditional-ish German beer hall environment. They are popular with tourists as well as locals.
Need to redirect the query to the Germany Forum. Can't make the Nurburgring? Hope the plan wasn't for cool wheels. FWIW, National Socialism had nothing to do with the track as it was built in '25, long before the crazies took charge -- and it's survived long since they've been ousted.
Also, if you have time, you could take the train to Freising to visit Weihenstephan. It's a beautiful brewery and in a nice little city. The ride only takes 30-40 minutes if I remember correctly.
Do some research on the German forum. Free day, good lord the possibilities! Kloster Andechs, Ayinger, Augustiner, many others on a short train ride.
one day only from Munich? Augustiner in Salzburg...maybe with a quick stop in the Chiemgau on the way for a Weisswurstfruehstueck with some Hofbrau Traunstein Hefeweizen. That or Kloster Andechs...
One day away means he could also make it to Bamberg... that's actually what I was expecting from you @herrburgess IMO I would simply take in more sites in München - in the middle of the summer, it's a massively cool town with lots to see and do.
Too far -- and far too much to do in Bamberg to truly experience Bamberg -- to travel for only a couple of hours to spend there. Bamberg deserves more...
If Bamberg is too far, but you don't want to stay in munich for whatever reason, how about Nürnberg? It is only 1,5 hours by regional trains with the direct connection, and only 1 hour by ICE. It is a very pretty city, plus if you know where to look, you can get good franconian beer and even franconian drinking experiences
Too bad it's not a week or two later. Then I'd say Annafest in Forchheim. 30+ Bierkeller set into a hill in the woods. Ahh...paradise.
I'll second Salzburg. Everyone needs to visit Augustiner there at least once. In Munich Augustiner Keller, Weisses Brauhaus and Nürnberger Bratwurstglöckl shouldn't be missed.
Take a train into the Alps. There is a US military base in Garmisch, so you'll likely find a fair amount of English spoken there and it's a nice city to check out.
