Me and the wife are heading to italy for ten days. Landing in Rome and ending up in Florence and Venice and then back to Rome. Any suggestions for restaurants, bars and breweries are appreciated. Thanks!

When my wife and I visited Rome and Florence 5-6 years ago there was not much of a beer scene so we drank wine. I've read that there is a much greater beer culture now, but I'm unable to give any advice based on my experience other than to say that I drank a Duff beer. If you are a Simpsons fan, you should do that and keep the bottle as a souvenir because you can't get that beer in the US. (It's just a so-so light lager.) Otherwise, don't be shy about ordering wine with meals. Italy does an excellent job with making wines.

    Enjoy your trip.

Rome - I was there in '15 and stayed slightly NE of the Pantheon - not craft but a fun place - Albert. The owners are a Scots wife and Italia husband.

Venice - Sept '17 - The Irish Pub & The Holy Drinker - a great place to eat is Osteria alla Bifora

Overall thin for bier in either location.

What kinds of places do you like? I'd suggest Il Serpente to the north above the Termini for more of a dive bar feel, and Armando al Pantheon as a great place for a slightly upscale (but fairly inexpensive meal). I need more information to work with. What do you really want to spend your time doing?

Don't know where you're staying, but if you're near Termini station, we really enjoyed this place.
    La Pentolaccia
    • Via Flavia 38, 00187 Rome, Italy
    • It's also quite close to Santa Maria della Vittorio. This is where Bernini's Ecstasy of St. Theresa is.
    • I found Rome to be a classic place for vacation beer...don't really drink Peroni at home
    • but a cold one on a hot Roman day tasted pretty good.
