Hey all. I'm going to be traveling to Kure Beach at the end of June from New Jersey. I'm looking for some recommendations for any local breweries and beers that are distributed to that area that I could not get up here in Jersey.

I'm familiar with Wicked Weed, so I will try and seek some out. But other than that I don't really know of anything in the area. I saw there were a couple small craft breweries/brewpubs in the Wilmington area, but are any of them worth a stop?

From a quick search it seems that Fermental is one of the better beer shops in the area. I'm mainly looking for some good IPA's, and other American Ales. A Saison would be nice as well. But if there is an amazing Stout or Porter that I can get my hands on I will bring it back to drink when the weather gets cold up here.

A friend of mine is having the grand opening of his bottle shop/beer bar today in Carolina Beach just a couple miles from Kure Beach. Its called Island Beverage. He has spent the last 5 months renovating the space with his wife and daughters and the place looks great. Make sure to stop and see him. He will be able to help you plus supply some local knowledge. Great guy! Michael Seafood restaurant next door is a wonderful dinner spot.

The thing with Fermentals is that you can uncover hidden gems in that store. It's basically an old house with all the cabinets and such. Pretty cool little spot and they're very helpful. So have a list or an idea of what you're looking for abd I'm sure they'll have something on your list I found a sour in the rye there back in December. As far as things to look for. I ALWAYS say out of state visitors should look for Event Horizon & maybe look for Omega Point.

I'd make a stop by Wilmington Brewing Company for sure....Great people and brews. Their breakfast stout is awesome. Also, Cape Fear Wine and Beer is a staple in the area I would recommend as well that usually has some interesting NC stuff on tap.

    Bottle shops:
Fermental / Lighthouse Beer & Wine - Ogden / Wrightsville Beach areas
Bombers Beverage / Palate Bottle Shop - Downtown Wilmington
All four have a great selection and beers on tap for on site consumption or growler fills.

All four are solid choices to get a good variety of Wicked Weed, NoDa, Haw River, and Olde Hickory. You'll more than likely find some Westbrook, Prairie, Alesmith, etc. and a ton of locals as well. Feel free to hit me up if you have any questions or any Carton to swap!

Agree with all of KalH's suggestions, just want to add that if you'll be downtown to visit the bottle shops, I would highly recommend a stop a Flytrap Brewing- awesome people and the hoppy tripel & saison are delicious. Enjoy your time down here!

I'm staying in Kure Beach this week. I stopped at Fermental on the way down and it is fantastic. I also stopped at Good Hops Brewing in Carolina Beach after passing it earlier in the week. They had some good beers and a really neat indoor/outdoor setup.

I appreciate all the advise that has been given so far. I'm heading down on Sunday night and just wanted to see if anything has appeared recently that I should seek out next week. Thanks again.
