I've been trying to go for awhile, but it's finally happening. What is a must try?

You're going a week before they start rolling out all their big barrel aged beers over the next month or so (Despot, Illuminatos, Supreme Leader). Heir Apparent is a great Mexican-spiced imperial stout, the BA version of which is Supreme Leader. I actually think Heir is better, but I'm probably the minority in that. They should have that available though. I'm also a fan of Magic Beaver, which is one of their flagship beers. Its a hoppy beer with Belgian yeast, although the Belgian aspect is fairly mild. It all works together really well I think.

They should be releasing Coconut Quad this weekend. I didn't get it when the released in Dec but it is the base for Coco Delight and that beer was f'ing amazing! Definitely Heir Apparent! To me it's very similar to Mexican Cake but without the heat. The Mexican spices are on point. I was not a fan of any of the Obsession (formerly Decadence) beers. Just missed the mark for me by a long shot. They should still have Redneck Wedding bottles. Have yet to try it but I usually go for anything in bourbon barrels. If Citra Fresh are actually fresh bottles grab that as well. I loved it.

They will probably have most of the bottles on draft so you can try before you buy. Even grab a taster if you want to sample before going for a full pour.

Going to be a great weather weekend to be out there! bring a chair for sitting if you like. They have a few picnic tables and may not have the tent up for cover from the sun.

Yeah I saw on IG that the BA versions are coming out next Saturday. Unfortuantly thats the date of the second UNC vs Duke game and I have people coming over to watch it :/ but mexican spiced imperial stout is RIGHT up my alley.

About how much is a bottle?

I don't recall exactly the breakdown. I think their normal stuff runs $12 and then the barrel aged bottles go for $18. 10oz pours when you are there will probably be $7 per.

Ugh, actually didnt make it. My girlfriend insisted we spent the day in DC on the mall and doing the Smithsonian museums. So yeah. I did get a bottle of Heir Apparent in Richmond though. :/

I'd like to visit on a quiet weekend sometime, in warm weather. I was there for last year's Despot Day and had a blast, but it was a zoo, obviously.

Sunday's are a great day for brewery visits I find. The crowds are night & day from Saturday. If it's not a release of a bottle I know probably won't make it the day on Saturday then I definitely prefer Sunday brewery hopping as opposed to Saturdays.

I'm hoping this Despot Day goes better than last and really do think it wiil. No snow and muddy conditions like last year. Some rain possible earlier in the week but should dry out by the weekend and be sunny all weekend. The time slots for bottles will hopefully work out well and since they sold out of tickets and will not have the Despot bottle for sale after Saturday then no one without a ticket should come expecting them unless (which I'm sure there will be a few) who will try to talk people who do not plan on getting full allottment on getting them bottles. By either way I'm expecting a very busy Saturday but well organized.
