I'll just borrow this topic for a bit.

So, I'll be going to Munich in a couple of weeks. I have pretty much figured it out about the places I want to visit for Bavarian beers.

But, I'm always on the lookout for new country ticks, so my question is if anyone could suggest me some shops or perhaps even restaurants with more exotic beers (for example: Cambodia, Iran, some African, ...).

Since I'll have the time to walk round the town, why not try to get some new ticks, eh.

Well, Germany is fairly notorious for selling only German beer (and select Czech beer). It's actually a ticker's non-paradise. You will have a tough time finding something from any non-traditional beer country, really. I think your best bet is to check out Getränke Oase, which has some Belgian and Italian beers. That's about as crazy as it gets for Germany. Perhaps the Camba place will have something unusual?

Out of curiosity, what places did you have in mind for Bavarian beers?

I don't know about that. When I was there in October, my wife and I drank 74 different beers (all German). How much more does one need to tick?

Ditto. Each of the 6 breweries in town has at least 3-4 beers with some (like Paulaner) having a roughly a dozen. Toss in breweries like Schneider, Erdinger, Forschungs, Weihenstephaner, Andechs, etc. and you can tick like a madman if you really want to.

I actually considered re-writing that sentence or deleting it. I see what you mean. I meant more that if one is looking to tick beers from around the world, German retail is not the place one wants to be.

True. I saw some Czech beers (mainly Budweiser and Urquell) and a few other random European pilsners like Forst and Steigl. Otherwise, I don't think the Bavarians seem overly interested in drinking beers from outside their region. At the supermarkets there weren't even all that many beers from outside Bavaria itself.

Of course, Munchen is mostly about local beer in all shops and pubs. But there's definitely some small Asian or what shop that sells some exotics. I Will be more than happy tasting the real Bavarian stuff all around, but countries are my quirky thing, that's the reason.

The problem is Marko that even though you might be interested in those beers, many/most Germans are not. Anything you might find (and it will be very limited) could possibly be quite old. If you really need to fulfill this desire, check out the larger shops of the Orterer chain. Maybe they can help.
