Doing a little road trip next month from Eugene down to San Fran along the coast. Will be hitting up the redwoods, R.R., Lagunitas and then finally landing in S.F August 17-20 for some phishin'! We are staying in the Tenderloin (I hear it's not such a great neighborhood but it's close to the venue and the hotel price is right.) My question...any cool beer bars or suggestions for me? I've been to the Toronado and Zeitgeist, don't need to go to those again. Any other places you like? I dig on sours and ipa's mostly. Does anyone need any beer from Oregon? In person trade? I'd like to get my hands on some fresh Alpine IPA's, Kern River stuff etc. Beer you love that isn't distributed to Oregon. I'm open to any suggestions for my summer roadtrip! Thanks in advance for any advice, suggestions, help or convo!

Hop on BART & hit Beer Revolution in Oakland. Also the Trappist that is a short walk up Broadway. Check here www.beerbybart.com for public transit options.

Oh, and BTW, we in the Bay Area hate "San Fran".

I always thought you hated "Frisco." Didn't know you hated San Fran too, it won't happen again. So every person in San Francisco actually writes out the whole thing when texting and emailing? Is S.F. safe to say? Sometimes I live in "the eug," and sometimes I live in Eugene, we don't care all that much really. Thanks for the heads up and the link you posted! I'm super stoked to visit San Francisco!

I shouldn't speak for everyone, but both frisco (which is in Texas) and san fran make my skin crawl. I usually just call it "The City", but yes, when addressing an envelope I use San Francisco.

South of Market is City Beer, which is great and attached to the ballpark is the Public House. Lots of cool stuff; cask & sours both tap & bottles.

We all hate Frisco, San Fran, Nor Cal, Cali, The Colonies, 3rd Stone, The 'Verse. We're finicky.

In The City try Public House, La Trappe and City Beer. Alipine and Kern River don't surface around here often, but if they're anywhere they'll be at City Beer, or at Beer Revolution in Oakland, which is another must stop. Probably THE must stop. Literally. Because they don't have a drive through window.

The Trappist, staggering distance from Beer Revolution, is a great spot as well. And you can't go wrong with Barclay's, also in Oakland. Oaktown. The big O. Okly Dokly. Al Davisville. We-haven't-won-a-world-series-since-1989-burg.

I lived in Eugene for a while and nobody ever called it "the eug." What's up with that?

SF is great. Probably the preferred nomenclature other than The City and San Francisco, pronounced, "San Frzsco".

Well, I apologize for calling your fine city anything other than San Francisco. I truly meant nothing by it and am glad you all have corrected me. Lesson learned, I can assure you. I am very much looking forward to visiting your wonderful city again. Thanks for all the tips!

Sorry If it came off as jerking your chain...get a couple of beers in me and I'll call it anything! Hope you have a great visit. If you get to the east bay, hit up Barclays, I'm there most days after work..I'll stand you a pint.

Hey caspian I am also going to be in sf from Syracuse ny during that time. We are only in town for sat and sun nights shows but if you have an extra or two by chance you can spare for sunday I would be super psyched. Really don't want to resort to stubhub. We booked our trip to sf before the dates were announced and were shut out for both sat and sun when we tried!
