It's a Wilco reference in case we have any fans on here. Anyway, I am going up to see my son graduate basic training for the Navy next week! I have a day with the wife before going to the graduation, and I will be staying in Waukegan. Anyone suggest a close brewery/brewpub that has some good craft brews on tap? Would love to try a Surly! Have done some research, and can't find anything at all. Thanks! Bob
Waukeegan's a rough area for craft beer. Best bet is probably to hop across the border to WI and hit up Uncle Mike's Highway Pub or something like that: https://www.beermenus.com/places/7672-uncle-mikes-highway-pub Edit: Looking for brewpub... Closest may be... I want to say Tighthead in Mundelein or Lake Bluff (in Lake Bluff)...
Gurnee has Timothy O'Toole's and they always have some great craft brews on tap. There are many great bottle shops in Libertyville and Hainesville - not too far away
Thanks to you all. Researched both Timothy's and Firkin, and both are very near the hotel and have an amazing draught list. Bob
It's been a while since I've been there, but Mickey Finn's brewpub was always a good spot for English style beers. Just down the block from the Firkin.

In all honesty, I would skip ZumBier. Have not been impressed by what I've had from them. If you are looking to visit a brewery, I'll second TightHead for both the good vibe and good beer. Lake Bluff Brewing is sometimes hit or miss beerwise but definitely a cool little spot to check out. As far as beer bars go, Firkin is second to none. A must visit if you're in that neck of the woods. Dig the Wilco reference. Have fun man!
