What's a good 3 Floyd's brew you can actually get without being there on delivery day in Chicago? I went on a trip and hoped to get some ZD, but, ha... no. Not a chance.

Ended up with a 6-er of Yum Yum, one Arctic Panzer Wolf, one Slacktivist, one Cimmerian Sabertooth Berzerker, and one Blackheart. I haven't tried any of them yet, but... what's some really tasty 3 Floyd's stuff that's somewhat available?

(The reason I ask is that my dad is coming up and driving through Indy in about two weeks and I can make him stop and look for something if applicable)

    Thanks.

Alpha King is good. Go to a Binny's since they often have some items. I was at the Lincoln Park store yesterday and they had quite a few bombers of Dreadnaught (which is also quite good).

Having said that, get some Pipeworks and Revolution too - some great choices there

Only ever had Zombiedust and I must say it was quite scrumptious.

Jesus Christ. You're literally logged into a website that assigns ratings to beers and ranks them.

As you've not yet had the FFF beers you've already bought, how do you know if those aren't really tasty?

OP, you need to decide if you like hoppy styles or malty ones, then monitor the website (http://www.3floyds.com/beers-to-go/) to see what is available until the day that your dad gets there. Give him a list of your preferences based on what is there. Looking at the list right now, two of their mainstay beers are listed plus Apocalypse Cow, which is a very tasty beer. Usually there are more offerings, but maybe the list tomorrow will be those plus all of the same ones that you already bought. It's hard to predict. The mainstay beers and some regularly released bombers are typically available at many stores, if they are out of something at the pub's kiosk.

Most of the FFF beers are good to great, and the ones I know of that were not are not readily available.

Indy stores are very hit and miss on whether they have FFF available. I've seen more on the shelves at various locations in the Chicagoland area than at about 90% of the stores in Indianapolis. The Crown downtown usually does, as does Kahn's on Keystone near Broad Ripple, but a single visit is going to be quite the crap shoot.

I don't. I'm just asking for opinions, in particular from folks who live in FFF's distribution area and have some experience on what is and isn't fairly straightforward to get.

Ah, right, well, I'll just get some Zombie Dust and barrel-aged Dark Lord then, because that's rated high. What, they're not available? Well f me then, who knew availability was something that locals could tell me?

I find that availability really varies, so it's tough to say what would easily be available. I would think Gumballhead would be this time of year; while I don't love it as much as I used to, I still think it's a good beer worth having. I've seen Jinx Proof around lately - I think that one is underrated. People seem to love Permanent Funeral, and I've seen bombers of it recently, so grab some of that to check it out if you see it. I've found all of their porters/stouts to be enjoyable, such as Backmasking.

Some of the beers you got I prefer to Zombie Dust. Plus, getting them from the source, they are super fresh. Panzer Wolf and Berzerker are fantastic beers. Yum Yum is really good for a session beer.

The glaring omissions from the ones you listed, that are somewhat readily available, are:
Gumballhead, Alpha King, and Dreadnaght. Anything beyond that is a bonus grab. If you're that worried about it, tell him to grab anything he sees by FFF.

I'm in the minority that thinks most of FFF beers are vastly overrated. Having said that, Robert The Bruce isn't too hard to find and it's the one FFF beer that I willl always keep in my fridge.

There are bombers of their stuff all over the city, sixer's are a little tougher, but can be found - there's usually a case of alpha king or Robert the Bruce that sits around for a day or so after deliveries.

In bombers, Blot out the Sun is good but very pricey. Dreadnaught and Permanent Funeral make their rounds - both are great DIPAS.

In sixers, Alpha King is awesome and you could find it all over. Gumball is refreshing and around. You can find ZD if you look hard enough, although the stores jack up the price of it.

I think the way to summarize all the feedback is to have your dad buy whatever he sees.

Almost all of their stuff is good to very good. Look at what's available and pick the style you like best.

Thanks for the feedback all. I did pretty much exactly what @croush suggested when I went through last week; I'll have the old man do the same.

I cracked the Yum Yum last night, and it's quite good. Looking forward to sampling the rest.

Where's your dad driving to? Just through Indy or up near Chicago as well? The brewery is the best place to go. Otherwise, in Indy, based on what I've seen over the past month or so, total crap shoot to find anything beyond bombers of Backmasking and 6ers of Yum Yum. Alpha King and Robert the Bruce are your best bets otherwise.

Downtown Crown and Kahn's are the best stores but they are also the most frequented so depending on the day makes it tougher to guess whether they'll have any FFF's. Less popular but solid stores like Stoney's are a good stop I'd imagine. Also, Apocalypse Cow should be floating around by that point which is worth picking up.
