I know this may seem like a generic thread, but my store manager(I work at a liqour store in NJ) is going on vacation to DC and although BeerMenus.com and BeerAdvocate's directory do exist, I would love to have a good list of recommendations. She is not really into craft beer but trusts my recommendations and wants to learn. Thanks
Churchkey is quite good. RFD also has a wide selection of beers. Rustico in Alexandria (and Ballston, but I haven't been there) are also excellent. Rustico is part of the same restaurant group as Churchkey.
Here are some recommendations. ChurchKey is a consensus pick, and I also like Pizzeria Paradiso and the Big Hunt.
thing about churchkey is that the place always seems packed. if you go, make sure you only order beer and/or generic drinks (like a jack and coke), or the bartender will look at you like your speaking greek. i took a non beer drinking date there once and the hipster bartender couldn't even make her a margarita. i know it's a beer bar, but how hard is it to make a margarita?
