My wife and I (both beer lovers) are flying into RDU from Chicago next week and driving out to Nags Head for a few days of R&R. We'll be traveling Route 64 and I thought perhaps there might be some stops along the way (or in OBX) to pick up a growler and/or pick up some bottles for the trip? Any recommendations or must-stops? I have Chip's Wine & Beer Market in Kill Devil Hills bookmarked as a must-stop once we're in OBX, but are there any other great bottle shops or brewpubs on the way? Many thanks in advance!

Stop by Lynnwood Brewing and pick up a growler of Hubris (DIPA). You could also hit trophy brewing for beer and pizza. As for shops, hit ridgewood for a large selection of growler fills, along with bottles, or hit up Bottle Revolution.

If you're looking for locations by the airport, I suggest Bottle Rev RDU or The Glass Jug. Otherwise, if you have the time, take up @brstls4drmrs advice and head into Raleigh. A lot to see and do.

I was pleasantly surprised with the food and beer at Full Moon Cafe and Brewery | Outer Banks, NC in Manteo. A nice little stop on your way into the OBX. A small town with a lot of history if you're into that kind of thing.

If you have the extra time then Sam's Quik Stop is a must if you don't get to the Raleigh/Durham area often. It's about 15 mins west of RDU in Durham but well worth your time to stop. Along with Chip's in OBX, you will want to check out Trio (Kill Devil Hills).

If you are looking for something on the way, then off of 540 on the way to 64 you have a few options. On Creedmoor 3 or 4 exits after the airport you have BottleMixx. Off of the Capital Blvd exit you have a Total Wine and a little further away The Hop Yard.

All of which have a good selection, and plenty of taps (especially Hop Yard relative to size).

Just fill up with everything from Bottle Revolution or Tasty Beverage. My favorite has always been Bottle Rev, but you won't be disappointed by either.

Great recommendations. I truly appreciate the help and will try to spend a little time in Raleigh either on the way out or on the rebound. Cheers!

I don't know your flight schedule, but do go into Raleigh for Tasty Beverage and Bottle Revolution and if time permits have lunch nearby. Raleigh is a very nice city.

I bet the 20% OBX surcharge will still be cheaper than buying at home in Chicago!
