It’s incredibly fun – I’ve come a long way since the Duchesse de Bourgogne that piqued my interest many months ago. Thanks so much for the quick and thoughtful response. Don’t think you ever need to apologize for the lengthy responses, as it seems that 99.9% of the times your words are appreciated across this community. Your alacrity deserves praise!

Stateline sounds like a great recommendation. I’m fishing in NJ this Saturday so will plan on stopping by there on the way back. It’s not terribly far so it’s definitely a place to hit up now and again. Beltway has stepped up their game from what I can tell, but is probably only a hair better than Wells as far as selection/staff. However, I do think Beltway is good at keeping a relatively low inventory but a decent selection, so as to not let things sit on the shelf. Sooooo… Stateline or Fishpaw for a once a month visit to chat with their staff, and the others for the interim increases in inventory!

A very interesting point on my beloved B-more being #1 in the import category... I lived in London for 3 years (been back in my hometown for 2 years now), and I would try to convince my English friends that the selection and choices of beers in Baltimore and elsewhere in the US was/is growing at a parabolic rate, but they refused to believe that any American city would have anything other than watery American beers. I really need to have them visit to spend some time in Baltimore and perhaps do a little SEPA road trip!

This is a great start. Thanks again. Have loads more questions but I’ll explore the mighty inter-web a bit more and save the others for a rainy day!!

    Cheers

Be sure to get their club card, either on-line or when you stop by (I think you can start using it immediately if you sign up at the store). It cost nothing to join their "club," and the savings can be substantial if you end up buying a lot of stuff (which I can practically guarantee will happen).

Also, be sure to check google maps before coming back home. If you take the last Deleware exist before hitting the toll booth (I believe it's the hiway 896 exit), you can avoid the toll and the route will take you right by State Line. You'll see what I mean once you look at the map (college avenue to W. Chestnut Hill, then south to Iron Hill Road, where you'll make a right over to Elkton Road - make a left on Elkton and State Line will be immediately on your left, in a dilapidated looking blue building). Good luck!

If you are going to go to fishpaws you should stop by dawson's which is maybe 5mins away and has a far better selection. I live right next to fishpaws and always drive right past it to go to dawsons.

And if you're passing the Laurel area, you can visit Corridor Fine Wine & Spirits (http://www.corridorwine.com/), which is just off 295 (B-W parkway).

Solid selection of beer, which you can search on their website. They also have a good selection of individual bottles, not really reflected on their website unless they're 22 oz. The store and the general area can be a bit hectic on the weekends.

Be prepared to spend more at Dawson's than at Fishpaws and check the dates on their bottles also. Another place you may want to check out is Bayridge in Annapolis.

I'm at Max's Tap House right now..... Great selection. So far I've had...

Williams Bros. Midnight Sun Porter (Cask)
    Jolly Pumpkin Maracaibo Especial
    Allagash Curiuex
    Rodenbach Grand Cru

Definitley will be back tomorrow. Thanks for the great recommendation.

Jaysus sent me the draft list at Oliver's/Pratt Street and the tap selection looks great. They have Monkey Gone To Heaven on (Bourbon Barrel Aged Barleywine), which I now REALLY want.

Well, if you happen to stop by before 4:30, be sure to say hi. I'll be the guy wearing the blue HOTD blue dot shirt (parked in front of a laptop most likely). Cheers!

Didn't make it over there today. Maybe after dinner tonight.

We did hit DFH in Virginia and went to Westover Market which had a nice bottle selection

This is a long shot but my cousin will be in Baltimore this weekend...are there any good bottle shops within walking distance from the convention center? She has no car but she offered to bring me back a few bottles of stuff I can't get in Georgia on the plane if she could easily access a shop nearby. Thanks.

You can do carry out at Alewife, which is a few blcks away. Closest bottle shop would be a $20 cab.

I visit friends in Baltimore a few times a year. You guys nailed this thread. Only thing I disagree with is do not take the water taxi. F the water taxi. I can swim faster than that damn thing.

Instead of quoting I will simply opine on PP. I was told by many reliable sources (one a distro rep) that Goose Island DEMANDED that their product be pulled from that store due to over pricing. If everyone else followed suit they'd be out of business (along with the full warm only selection biting at their heels). Outside of that tidbit, everything else recommended is SPOT ON.

Cheers and have a Great time in BawlMur, its a great city!

This fall I'm going to be at a boat show at Harborview Marina. Is that considered the Federal Hill area? Any recommendations within walking distance? LP Steamers looks great. I have Ryleigh's Oyster house and Abbey something or other on my list.

That is close enough to be considered Federal Hill area. Haven't been to LP, but Ryleigh's and Abbey Burger Bistro are good....Ryleigh's more so for food. I would also recommend checking out Brewers Cask which is in Federal Hill. All of these places are walking distance.

You may also want to consider taking the water taxi or a cab to Fells Point and hitting up Max's.

Just as an oh by the way.... while you're in town, considering getting a day pass on the water taxi. I believe they still have a stop over by the Harborview area, and the taxi will get you over to Fells Point (Max's) and Canton square (Mahaffeys and Hudson St. Stackhouse). It's relatively cheap, quick and reliable.
