Will be in Ft Worth the week of Christmas to visit my wife's family. I am traveling from NC & would like to pick up some good beers I can't get in NC. After looking at seekabrew the only two large breweries I notice gets distro that we don't is Deschutes & Six Point. Looking for any locals as well. Fave styles are stouts, RIS, IPA, & porters. I love coffee beers. Any suggestions on good beers & a beer store in Ft Worth is greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Kings Liquor on W Berry Street near TCU has a large quantity of craft beer, and they arent really picked over by TCU students so there are some good finds there. A bunch of local stuff (Martin House, Rahr, Lakewood, Deep Ellum, etc) is there. And there are all the Six point beers there, besides the Global Warmer. Today, I saw that they still had a few Black Butte XXV's left, as well as quite a bit of their 6 pack year rounds and seasonals. Other than that, I would check out Brewed on Magnolia. Its a local Texas beer bar AND coffee bar (my wifes favorite place because we both get what we like...they also make their own kombucha) The Bearded Lady- a good craft beer spot, with some great food. Other bottle shops, Id recommend is Central Market on Hulen St. They do growlers as well.
After finishing your post... Id recommend Martin House There Will Be Stout (Pretzel Stout). Salty, chocolaty, roasty. Very good.
You forgot Firestone Walker. Try finding bottles/cans of: St. Arnold's Endeavour Lakewood Temptress Community Mosaic IPA Deep Ellum IPA Rahr Bourbon Barrel Winter Warmer Santa Fe Imperial Java Stout
My favorite Texas Beers Fireman 4(My favorite easy drinking party beer) Buried Hatchet Stout Deep Ellum IPA Revolver Blood and Honey Naked Nun 512 Pecan Porter(Bottle releases are rare) The Central Market on Hulen does have a Growler Station. The Specs on Bryant Irvin Rd is where I normally shop it's an old grocery store turned into a liquor store. For Deschutes don't miss Obsidian Stout. There are a lot of great bars for beer I suggest you hit one up so you can try the locals. Definitely don't miss the CM Growler station.
I'm not hot on the Fort Worth breweries (there I said it) but locally you should find Santa Fe Java Stout (from NM) and Real Ale Coffee Porter (near Austin) on the shelf. Both are excellent coffee beers. Good recommendations here, I'd also toss in Total Wine as another good place to shop in Fort Worth. What part of Fort Worth will you be visiting? It's a fairly large city with lots of suburbs so most of the suggestions here may be more distant drives than others. Plus, with all the construction on our freeways it may be helpful to know areas/times to avoid driving.
I second Tenderfoot, and also add to that Rahrs Bourbon Barrel Aged Winter Warmer... Probably their best offering
