The Shaw's supermarket in Back Bay has an OKish selection for a supermarket. I'm not aware if any others in the neighborhood - others may advise differently, but you may need to head downtown a bit.
Not a ton in Copley. Right on Boylston is Pour House which has nice pub food and some decent beers. Nothing special but its ok. If you can get around there is Sunset Grill and Tap 130 Brighton Ave in Allston. Its only a few miles away and they have pretty much every beer you could think of. Meadhall at 4 Cambridge Center in Cambridge is another great one. Publik House in Brookline at 1648 Beacon street is great and highly recommended. They are in Washington Sq on the C line. If you want some decent beers and incredible cocktails, Eastern Standard, Island Creek Oyster Bar and the Hawthorn right in Kenmore sq are awesome. Oh and dont forget Lower Depths with is 476 Commonwealth ave in boston. Its a block or two from Kenmore sq. You definitely will not be disappointed there. It is a cash bar though. You can always go to the waterfront and go to Harpoon Brewery 306 Northern Ave Boston. They obviously have some great beers and recently opened up a beer hall there. Its pretty awesome. they have some great pretzels too. You've also got great italian food in the north end. Basically most any restaurant on Hanover st will do. Good luck and enjoy
Try The Urban Grape South End on Columbus Avenue. It's about a 10 minute walk from Copley Square. It's predominantly wine, but they have really upped their craft selection over the last year.
+1 on Bauer Wine and Spirits on Newbury St. Very nice walk and pretty good selection for where it is.
Can you buy singles from Bauer Wine? Their website shows most beer is available in 6-packs. They have a lot of stuff I can't get in PA, but I don't want to buy all 6-packs.
My wife goes out to Boston for work on a fairly regular basis and stays in Back Bay. She's never had any success finding me beer to bring back and doesn't have much time in the evenings to wander into other parts of the city. She said that the Shaw's is really close to where she stays. Do they have a good selection of local stuff I can't get back in Seattle (not looking for uber rare/specific, just some nice MA beers), would she be better off checking out Bauer on Newbury?
baur for sure...but urban grape might actually be closer 303 Columbus Ave...im going there tonight ill let you know what the selection is looking like. That being said i know baur has a good selection of MBC offerings atm...but you might have to ask for them, they were not up front as of tuesday night.
Urban Grape has a large/better beer selection than Bauer wine, especially if you're looking for local stuff.
Thanks again for the suggestion. My wife stopped in at Shaw's tonight and got me some CBC and Pretty Things bottles. I think she's a little intimidated by the bottle shops, so Shaw's was perfect.
