I'll be traveling to Milwaukee this weekend from Indianapolis. I'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions for some good IPA's available in Milwaukee that are not distributed to Indiana. The only obvious brewery that comes to mind is New Glarus. Thanks.
Lakefront has a great IPA, probably distributed everywhere but its world class 1872 N Commerce St. Milwaukee, Wisconsin, 53212 phone: (414) 372-8800
I like Black Husky's pale ales. They aren't rated super highly on BA but I always like them. Also do you get Ballast Point or Surly out there? If not, add those.
As far as IPA, you can't go wrong with New Glarus Scream and Moon Man, central waters HHG APA (bomber), toppling Goliath PseudoSue and Golden nugget and if you make anywhere near Madison you have to pick up Karben4 Fantasy Factory
Beers - New Glarus Scream, New Glarus Moon Man, Black Husky Pale Ale Bars with great beer - Stubbys, Draft and Vessel , Burnhearts, Sugar Maple Beer stores - Discount Liquor and Ray's
By no means does this site rely on perfect data, but it should come in handy in your travels nonetheless: http://seekabrew.com/distro/compare.html
I'm from Indy as well and will be headed to Milwaukee in 2 weeks! You should be able to find some Pseudo Sue among other great offerings! Use SeekaBrew as I believe someone else suggested to compare our district to Milwaukee's! I highly recommend Moon Man from NG if you have never had it! Also would stop on Chicago area for some Half Acre, Revolution, Pipeworks, etc! Lol I've been mapping out my annual excursion to Milwaukee for months! Cheers
Two things, Tenuta's in Kenosha has Psuedo Sue 4 packs, if you are headed up today stop by, they had a couple cases with a limit of two 4 packs. They also have Tyranena Balling the Queen, Surly Blakkr, and Black Husky beers (Pale Ale as well as 12 Dogs). Next, when getting to Racine county drive the speed limit, the entire Racine County corridor on I-94 is a speed trap. Speeding tickets on the interstate are our money maker.
Thanks for the speed trap note. Once you cross the cheddar curtain from Illinois the police presence is notable in Wisconsin.
Lakefront My Turn: Tom Citra-Hopped IPA is really delicious and less than a month old. Most bottles of New Glarus Scream around MKE are 3+ months old, so maybe pick up a single to see if it's worth going in on a 4-pack. Black Husky Pale Ale is one of the better IPA's being made in Wisconsin right now. I say, stop at Discount to see what they have. That would be your best chance at landing several great Wisconsin beers in one shot. Ray's, too, has a great US selection but not nearly as many Belgians and imports (if you're seeking anything weird/funky from Europe).
