Here's an article I found with some possibly good news for us in Ohio and our low ABV law: http://www.ohio.com/blogs/the-beer-...president-not-opposed-to-raising-abv-1.635753
Yes please. Especially when we have amazing barrel-aging programs like Thirsty Dog's and Jackie O's based here. With how well Wulver's ABV is hidden at the 12% Ohio limit, I'd love to see what they can do with that restriction lifted! It also opens the door for other high-quality beers from lauded breweries to be sold here, instead of forcing me to cross the Ohio River to buy them.
I always overlook the BORIS line when I make these posts, and I don't know why. Bad me! Bad! Seeing the high gravity specialists at Triple Digit unleashed here in Cincy would also be a fantastic treat!
I have followed this pretty closely, as an Ohio resident. There were a number of Ohio breweries that testified in support of the bill and only 1 macro brewer that testified against the bill. If the bill were to pass, Ohio breweries would have 12 months to make beers over 12% ABV before any out of state beers over 12% ABV could be sold in Ohio.. I do look forward to the day I can buy a bottle of 120 minute or World Wide Stout when I go my local bottle shop.
I agree with Mike... The restriction is stupid, but it won't do anything for my buying or drinking habits. I have had a few 12%+ stouts when out of state and I didn't really care for them at all, they become too imbalanced with booziness, sweetness, etc... I find 8% to be the sweet spot for most big beers for me... Some 10%'ers have been good, but beyond that I tend to like them less and less.
From the article: “I tend to be a free market guy,” Faber, R-Celina, said in a recent interview with the Akron Beacon Journal. “Wine and other alcohol levels are a lot higher than that. I don’t know why we discriminate against beer, particularly when we have this whole craft beer industry growing.”
