I'm looking for a great porter or stout. I would love to try some of the Hill Farmstead stuff but they aren't distributed to San Diego. Any suggestion would be appreciated.

My all time fav is Young's Double Chocolate Stout. I haven't had it in a while but when talking to people that might like something like a stout or a porter, its the first one I think of.

Being in San Diego, forget about Hill Farmstead for awhile and soak up Stone Smoked Porter, Black Marlin Porter, and Speedway Stout, and that's just for starters. For a great porter & stout which offer great value for money, try Deschutes Obsidian Stout and Black Butte Porter (usually $8-9 per six-pack).

Stout season is just right around the corner but the last great stout I had was Santa Fe Imperial Java Stout. Check it out if you can get it in your area.

Don't have to look far. Ballast Point Victory at Sea. I hear their Black Marlin is also pretty good. Green Flash Double Stout is also great, as is Stone's Smoked Porter.

Stone's Smoked Ported was my favorite until I found Alaskan Brewings' Porter. I like it better than Black Marlin, Black Marlin isn't strong enough for my taste. Same goes for Black Butte, I need to try their stout. I've been timid in going for the AleSmith foil wrapped beers though I'm sure they're the best, the price tag is a little much right now. Thanks! I'll grab that Deschutes stout ASAP

Ooooooooooo dang man, I tried that the other night. Interesting...To say the least. The spiciness usually scares me away. That one wasn't too bad in the spice department....Just very....Interesting

Cool, let me know what you think. Highly underrated around here, but one of my favorite year-round local stouts.
Otherwise go to Pizza Port and they always have some kick-ass stouts on draft.

Ballast Point Victory at Sea is one of my favorite porters, I pick up a bottle or two every time I see it.
